I know nothing about TIVO except it will pause live programming etc. I can get a DVD/DVR that will basically do the same thing. Sooo, should I get a DVD/DVR unit at Circuit City or get a TIVO. Can a TIVO be used without being subbed? A DVD/DVR cost about $275 and a TIVO, I understand, is about half that. I just don't see where I need a lot of the stuff TIVO has when you sub. I hope this is not to confusing and if I posted in the wrong place, sorry. Thank for any info. :)

You need a sub to use a tivo. Aside from that, just weigh pros and cons versus your needs. But the tivo does need a sub to do anything, that's one of the reasons the boxes themselves are cheap.

Thanks Da Goon, you kind of confirmed my suspitions. The pause live thing has never come up until we were watching our favorite football team and mama cookie had to go to the bathroom. We'll prolly get one this weekend.
