Hi,

I've currently got

1 Tivo Series 2 TSN-240-xxx Single Tuner, Lifetime, 80hrs

1 Tivo Series 2 TSN-240-xxx Single Tuner, no sub, upgraded to 140 hours

First question: Can I swap the drives on these two units, so I get 160 hrs on my Lifetime unit? They both work fine. I assume I just swap the drives, and then have to run a Clear and Delete everything.

Second question: I just ordered an 80hr dual Tuner Series 2 machine. I assume I can't swap the drive from the older Series 2 machines using the same simple procedure?

If not, what's the easiest way to upgrade the drive on the new Dual tuner unit and what is the largest it can go?

Or assuming I upgrade the older single tuner unit with a larger drive, should I just transfer programs as necessary to clear space on the dual tuner?

Thanks for the help. I've upgrading several Series 1 units many years ago, but have forgotten everything I knew then. Seven years is a long time in the hacking world!

1) Maybe. You didn't list any portion of their TSN's, just XXX :p The first 3 digits will tell.

2) The software from the single tuners is definitely not swappable to a dual tuner. Go to mfslive.org for all the info you need to upgrade any tivo. You can use the largest single IDE drive you can find.

Sorry, they are both 240 units. Thanks for the link to mfslive.org. It looks pretty simple to do. Is there any reason to buy a new Seagate DB25 drive, or can I use one of my other new drives that are sitting around like a Maxtor IDE or Seagate IDE drive?

You can readily swap the drives amongst the 240s without issue.

Any IDE drive will do for the DT. Last I heard, 750GB was the largest PATA drive, which the Series 2 units should handle fine.
