Friends – “Start as I mean to go on”. Since I recently had phone problems and my TIVO didn’t dial up for 3 weeks I thought I would start using the Network card I installed back in 2005. Unfortunately I do not know the IP address. I have tried all the “normal” ones and even set an IP scanner running but all to no avail.
So, torx driver in hand its into the box. I installed the TIVO drive into a PC with the XP HD disconnected, put the TIVO CD in and switched on. CD loads up and I get a bash #. My initial thoughts were to re-install the network software. If I type nic_install it says that it cannot see a valid TIVO drive, surly the nic_install command is on my hard drive? I can create a directory and remove it so I must be. I found the nic_config_tivo file but if I type that in it complains about it being a binary file.
Sorry guys this is where I need your help. Believe me I have searched the forum, and there is a lot on this subject but none that seems to help. All I need it to re allocate an IP address to my TIVO.

I've just checked and the actual command is:
/nic_install/nic_install [card type]
where [cardtype] is either 'cachecard' or 'turbonet' depending on which you have, but without the ' of course ;) So that might be your problem.
Also, I assume you mounted the drives as per usual first?

I have a vague recollection of a similar problem when I installed my cachecard.
I'm pretty sure the cause was either the hard drive being hdy when the cachecard software wanted it to be hdx, or the byteswapping thing?
No help at all, sorry. I'll see if I can find my thread...

Make sure the tivo is set as master, and try it on the on the secondary IDE controller (hdc).
ISTR some tools being fussy and not "seeing" a tivo drive if its set as hda (primary master).

Yeah, has to be secondary master.
I didn't find my thread on this, but my post here http://archive2.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=3620363&&#post3620363 and subsequent replies agree.

Have not mounted the drive (which drive CD or HD?)
On the opening screen when loading the HD is seen as hdc and the CD as hdb. I will check if its on the sec master.
Thanks again.....this Lynix is soooooo confusing

Actually, I now seem to remember that you don't need to mount the drives when simply running 'nic_install'. Sorry for the confusion :) (I did it again myself only recently so should have remembered really )

Is the drive unlocked?

Is the drive unlocked?
As far as I know yes. The drive was purchased from Tivoheaven in 2005 with the networking set up for me. Its a seagate barracuda 160g
I have made sure its in Sec master but it still reports hdc as not a TIVO drive. I have the replacment 40g unit and it does that to.
I am using a disk TIVO Heaven sent me LBA48 + backup. NIC_INSTALL is in a Turbonet dir and I use the TIVONET option in the command
nic_install tivonet
The system comes back with no TIVO drive found

How right you were. All bust into life as easy as it should. Many thanks. :D
My IP was in the right subnet it looks like a little finger trouble with the gateway. I am downloading my first update via the web as I type.
Now – what modules do you all think I would benefit from? I have Tivoweb 1.9.4 I have been off the forum for a while and not up to date with the new ones.
