I have now got the Grey Screen of Death (GSOD):) on my HD Tivo Twice in the last week. The first time I was playing with the video resolution and thought that might have occurred as a by product of changing too many times. Today I was in Tivo central and when I went back to live TV I had it again. Did not change anything, just browsing. As before, I restarted Tivo and it recovered. Is this a problem with all HD Tivo's or do I have a possible defective one? I have seen this mentioned in other thread but with no conclusions.

The GSOD is a FATAL error that requires TiVo to do a disk check.

Anyway, the Grey screen means that you are not getting a valid video signal. You don't say if you have cableCARDs or not, but assuming you do, you might want to check the status on both tuners. The sticky cableCARD FAQ at the top of this thread is a good start.

Sorry about definition of GSOD. However, I do not have the cable cards yet. That is scheduled for Thursday. I do not believe it is a signal strength problem though. The only time I have seen it has been when I come out of Tivo Central. Never when I am just changing channels. There have been other posts regarding this problem. Also, I am using component cables not HDMI. In addition even inside Tivo Central the background is all grey.

I don't think the box is defective (I hope). Here is a link to a very long thread that seems to be similar to my problem...
