I should be able to program the aspect button to do something else. Right?

I press Tivo and Select together for 3+ seconds. The red light lights up. Then I press the Aspect button which is the one I want to change. Instead of blinking just once it's quickly does the 10 time blink that it's supposed to do later if unsuccessful.

It definitely didn't "learn".

Any ideas? I should be able to change that one. Right?

No. That's not one of the user programmable buttons.

I think they are TV Power, Mute, Vol Up/Down, Input. I'm not the expert, but I think it's only those four.

If I'm wrong, someone will let us know. :D

That's disappointing. Input did work as instructed. Stinks. I've got an Sony XBR5 which has it's own Full, Wide etc.. aspect mode. And the TV's looks better in the 4:3 mode because the background color is Black and the outer part of the TV is also black.

Tivo's background aspect in 4:3 is gray which isn't as nice. So I just wanted to replace Tivo's aspect button with the TV's one.

You can set the pillarbox color to black on the tivo.

Quick question if you're still reading. The Series 3 setup the Video aspect as 480i Fixed. For my Sony XBR5, I changed this to Native since (I think) it supports everything 1080p, 1080i, 720, 480.

This is the correct setting? Right?

I use Native on my XBR4 which is basically the same as the XBR5, but there is no "correct setting" for that TV as any setting will work. It's up to personal preference. If you don't mind the time it takes to switch resolutions, which is pretty short, than Native is your best bet.

Does the XBR4/5 accept a 480i signal over HDMI? I don't know why I thought they wouldn't...

The XBR4/5 accepts 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p over HDMI. TiVo S3/HD will output all those formats over HDMI except 1080p.
