I tried searching for this but didn't find anything, so here goes....
I recently got a HD TIVO (Not S3) and have noticed that the HD Tivo does not make the trademark "boop boop" sounds my S2 boxes make when fast forwarding/rewinding. It also does not make the sound when you press the Tivo button on the remote.
Once in the NP list or other menus the "boop" sounds work perfectly when scrolling from item to item. I just am not getting the sound effects while watching a program (recorded or live).
Is this something strange with my DVR or is this normal for these boxes?

It does make them. However, they can be disabled in Settings. But my guess is that you're using the optical audio output... right? There's some issue with the sound effects in that case. (I'm not too familiar with the issue as I don't use it myself.)

The TiVo cannot inject its "boop" sounds into a Dolby Digital bitstream.
Hence, you won't get Tivo sounds on DD2.0 or DD5.1 channels through optical unless you disable Dolby Digital and use PCM stereo (Settings -> Audio).
Good to know. Now I understand why I wasn't getting them on my new TiVoHD.

Thanks! That did it!
Ah, thanks for this info!
Now it makes sense why I get the FF/RW "bloop-bloop" on some channels but not others. It's not a big deal for me but I did worry for awhile that maybe something was wrong with my unit.

It might also be your TV. I had a 32" Sharp Aquos HDTV when I first bought my TivoHD. I heard all the Tivo sounds as I had always heard them with my Series 2 and an old RCA SD TV. I recently upgraded to a 42" LG HDTV. Now I rarely hear the FF or RW sounds, and I don't hear the new 'Record' sound over commercials while FFing. I hear all the sounds during menu navigation still.... I'm not using a receiver, just the TV's speaker system.

Update.....After writing the above comment I went into my Tivo settings and changed Dolby Digital to PCM. Viola, I got my boops and beeps back!! It does state in the settings that HDMI outputs can be affected, but my prior HDTV was also hooked up via HDMI.
