Does FIOS use some sort of cable cards? Also, does the S3 TiVo require cable cards?

FIOS uses a Mot headend and thus Mot CableCARDs. They work fine and enable reception of digital channels including HD.

There are S-Cards (single stream) and M-Cards (multi-stream) in the world.

The S3 does not recognize the multi-stream part of M-Cards and need two cards regardless of whether they are M-Cards or S-Cards.

The TiVo HD does recognize the multi-stream M-Cards and needs either one M-Card or two S-Cards.

Verizon has not yet deployed M-Cards yet but will soon.

To make a long story short for Verizon, today you will need two cards for either the S3 or TiVo-HD.

I take it you have Uverse.:) Thinking VERY seriously about canceling DirecTV. Worth it?

How about multiple S3 TiVo's. Still possible and still be able to network the S3 together?

You should do it. I switched from D* last year to FiOS and haven't regretted it even for a moment. Just make sure you look at the thread regarding the use of attenuators to get the SNR to around 31. The FiOS signal is awfully hot, and it can cause some pixellation problems with the S3.

Thanks. Read about that.

Listen people U-verse is not fios!
U-Verse is a AT&T Product.
Fios is a Verizon Product.
They are completly different.

How so? Is Verizon like a cable company? In other words, not IPTV?
Does Verizon use Cablecards?

I'm going over there to look them up.:)

Verizon uses fiber to transmit video to the box on the side of your house, where the video gets converted to typical QAM video. So, from the viewpoint of your Tivo, FiOS is just like typical cable (except the quality is better IMHO). And yes, they do use CableCards.

Verizon is currently not in my area but Uverse is. One way or another, I'm leaving DirecTV. I don't like their style of business for loyal customers of over 7 years.:o

You might want to rethink that choice. Going with U-verse means no tivo s3, only one HD channel at a time, and internet capped at 6-1. Also people have been complaining about the tv quality on U-Verse.

There are other reasons why I didn't go with Uverse. Add the TiVo to the list of reasons why.

I found out that U-Verse and Verizon cannot exist in the same area so therefore Verizon is out of the picture!:D

If I want the S3 TiVo, I have to go with cable TV (Comcast, used to be Time Warner)
