TIVO Equipment Pricing

I finally made up my mind to get a Tivo HD instead of the Series 3.

After reading a number of threads here, I tried calling Tivo to inquire about cancelling one of my non-lifetime boxes and about features on the Tivo HD. I even mentioned that cable company was offering a free DVR for 6 months.

No amount of pushing, laughing or just being nice could get the rep off the $299 price tag. I can get that at Best Buy.

Is there a secret handshake I missed in getting Tivo to sell the HD for the $199 I have seen quoted?

I had to have the CSR talk to his supervisor. I have been a customer for 5 years that may have made a difference. I got mine ordered this morning.

not really sure. It is out there and I guess it depends on how hard you push... too bad to. I asked my CSR and he claimed he didn't know anything about it. Then I had him speak to his "soup" and he confirmed that the supervisor was willing to offer me the deal. I think that when you call again to cancel you have to be willing to cancel it out right. Also they will sell you the box and then you later will transfer the existing service to it, thus canceling the old tivo box.
