View Full Version : Season pass FIFO?

I did search for this and couldn't find a clear answer...
With season passes... Are they "FIFO" in nature? IE if I tell TiVo to record up to 10 episodes of "Good Eats" for my wife. Does it keep recording new ones and bumping old ones off the back of the list? Even if the old ones have not been viewed yet? (I'm hoping this is true...)
Thanks in advance

Took me a second to remember FIFO then my accounting classes all came back to me. To answer your question yes (unless you set the season pass to keep until I delete). However, depending on how many shows you set and how many of each of those you set to keep you may not have 10 episodes of Good Eats it all depends as once you run out of space on the hard drive the oldest shows (unless you change the keep until date) get knocked off first.

Excellent! Thanks...
What I hope to do is to have my wife look at the 10 (or how many shows) it records and if it is on a subject she wants, then I will or she will change it to keep until we delete it.
Space is the remaining question... In looking their seems to be no way to determine free space? I guess TiVo manages that automatically?

There is no real "simple" way to know space but there are general ways you can do. If you look at suggestions plus recently deleted (once the Tivo gets full) then that can help you estimate space available for new stuff. Also if your Tivo is networked you can download TivoPlaylist (which was programmed by one of the forum members) and that can help estimate space, only issue is then you have to be in front of your computer to check it.

If you ever want to do the opposite you can set the season pass to Keep Unit I Delete which will record 10 and then stop until you have deleted one or more episodes at which time it will record moe to put you back up to 10.
