View Full Version : Is the Glo remote different then the TivoHD oem remote?

The reason I ask...it seems my oem won't power up or down my Yamaha receiver though it will control volume and mute? My series 2 remotes do control all power up and down but do not receive the guide from HD unit. Somewhat frustrating...that's all. If the Glo is indeed programmable and does power up and down the Yamaha receiver then all will be good(once I actually order a Glo).

It programmable. There is a way to make the power button do double duty and turn off your TV and your receiver. But I prefer to program the mute button to shut off my receiver.
Two button presses, but more control that I don't get them out of sync if you know what I mean.

The above trick seems to work with the S3 but not my TivoHD. I'm not really sure why the HD remote won't turn the power on and off for my Yamaha receiver? All my series 2 remotes do just fine?? What could be wrong? Maybe something in the initial install questions?? It should work.

This programmable feature is on the Glo remote, which does not come standard with the HD, just the S3. I also have an HD and used to own an S2, and I miss being able to turn both the TV and receiver on & off with one click on one remote. I asked TiVO CS about it, and they first told me it should work (as stated at that time on their own Help pages), then we discovered it does not and they apologized and said there was nothing they could do and said they'd change the Help page that referenced it.
I'll be buying a universal remote.

I use the Glo remote on my TiVo HD to turn both my receiver and TV on/off with the power button. It works very well with the remote even after having to learn the codes.

Thanks everyone for the informative discussion/information! I am a stickler when it comes to remotes and actually disappointed in Tivo for missing this lack of functionality that has always been included, quite an oversight? I will be ordering a glo from rewards then. I see they come in white and black but I can't decide? Is the white one for seeing in the dark or something?

FYI, not every button is programmable. Which was kinda a let down. The white one looks cool.

I guess I missed something, why don't you just use an older remote? You can even do setup via the S2, then bring it into the other room with an HD and it will do everything the same if neither Tivo is set to a specific remote code (code 0, every remote works)
I wasn't aware my S2 and HD remote had anything different other then the Aspect button using the "window" button ir codes.

It seems the S2 remote will power on/off but has no guide with the HD. The HD remote has guide but doesn't power on/off my audio receiver :( Boo! So.......for the time being, we are having to use 2 Tivo remotes to operate a couple basic functions..... This is extremely odd considering I have found (before getting an HD unit) the Tivo remotes the best I ever had! Those babies will/would control almost any electronics device known to man! HA-HA until along came the TivoHD..............

Both my S3 and my S2 remotes have the Guide button. I guess I don't understand what you are saying.

Greg,
I see the same quote in the first post by the OP, but I also don't understand what they mean by it, my S2 and S3 remotes are fully interchangeable, and all work the same way with the exception of the Glo being able to learn if I had the need. The guide button on the S2 and S3 works both of them.
The one thats not been mentioned, is that the S1 peanut does have several different behaviors from the S2/S3 family of remotes, and I have to wonder if that's what the OP has.

Is that the S1 remote, or are there others?

The OP doesn't have to have a S1 remote, just some how the receiver had seen S1 commands from a universal remote. Then certain keys like Guide with stop working correctly.
anyways the only S1 remote in those photo is sony.

I just figured it out! My S2 remote I was using was actually one of the remotes from my Toshiba RS-TX20! I have a ton of remotes...
I still can't control the on/off function on the Yamaha receiver though...while it does control volume/mute functions....

Got my TivoHD remote to finally control A/V receiver on/off function! Had to re-enter code after vol/mute cycle.

Can you provide more detail please? I've been trying to get mine to do that without success. What brands do you have for TV and receiver? My old ones (with my Series 2) were both Sony, but my new TV is Pioneer and I've been trying to figure out whether my S2 controlled both only because they were the same brand or not.
