I have a DirecTv Tivo box that has started to die, so I just received a new DirecTv DVR as a replacement. How can I keep both boxes connected to a single S-video input on the TV?

I've never used one, but I'd say you need one of these

S-Video Switch (http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SVID410IR-Composite-S-Video-Switch/dp/B000E17CK6)

Not sure what they do to the video quality. This one has an IR remote, at least.

You could also use a coax input for one of them. Your PQ will suffer a bit, but it's free and easy.

I'm going with a selector I found on Amazon for under $30. I believe I can have an S-Video and RCA audio running from each recorder into the selector and a single S-Video and RCA audio running to the TV/Amp. Then all I need to do is keep the recorder I'm not currently watching from sending a signal. Volia, I'm set!

Thanks for the advice!

Then all I need to do is keep the recorder I'm not currently watching from sending a signal.

That's what a selector switch does; it cuts off all the other sources except the one you intend to watch. No need to turn off the others unless for longevity and energy savings.
