the Series 2 and my TIVO HD. The Series 2 has numerous shows, but the HD TIVO has only a few and not even close to the same type programs on the Series 2. My search set up is MOVIES and 3 actors. - same on each box.

Do you mean your wishlist setup (and not search set up)? I don't see how that relates to the suggestions on your box however. How many suggestions you have recorded depends on how much available space you have available. Your TiVo HD may have more digital recordings which would take up more space. Also, the two boxes do not ship with the same available hard drive space. I bet the thumb ratings on each box are not exactly the same either.
Btw, you didn't explain if you meant the suggestion list or how many suggestions have been recorded.
Also, the channels you receive may not be the same on each box so it will affect the shows it indexes for possible suggestion inclusion.

Aren't suggestions also based on the history of what you've watched? Can you say that you've watched the same shows on each box?

Suggestions are based on what shows you have given one or more thumbs up/thumbs down to. Any recorded show gets an automatic thumbs up (though I've noticed a bug where that does not happen if you record something from the TiVo Guide). I would assume your older TiVo would have many more thumbs given than your newer TiVo.

I had just the opposite experience. Because the HD has two tuners and so much more storage capacity than the Series 2, within a couple of days I had twice as many suggestions (albeit with quite limited variety, because as previous posters have pointed out, it takes a while for it to "learn" my tastes) as I'd ever seen on my old box.
I've seen threads out here where people say they're starting to turn off Suggestions on the HD/Series 3 boxes because they just go nuts collecting stuff.

That's been my experience too. It got especially bad when I added an eSATA drive; the Suggestions Department went absolutely crazy and started recording as if all TV signals were going to go dark at the end of the month. I still have them turned on but it does get a bit tedious looking through pages and pages of suggestions to find one that I like.

I purchased the Series 2 (not dt) in September from e-bay. Found out that I loved my TIVO and thought I would wait until January to get a LCD (HD) TV, but December won the toss. I got the TV and the TIVO HD the 1st week of December.
So, I think it practically negates the theory that I have given more thumbs up as to the reason the Series 2 has more and different suggestions, than the TIVO HD.
The Series 2 has pages and pages (that's remote up and down) of suggestions, but the HD only has 2 pages and they are different categories.
I keep checking it to see how this develops.
Thanks for your input. :up::)
