I just got the tivo hook up yestetday. Now I am having problem it's said preparing the service update. This may take up an hour, possibly longer. How do I fix it.

The TiVo is just updating to the latest software version. This is normal. Be patient.

If it has been way over the hour the TiVo may be stuck you might have to cycle the power by pulling the plug. You may want to contact TiVo Customer Support (http://www.tivo.com/abouttivo/contactus/phonesupport.html) first however.
