View Full Version : Can I use my old TiVo as storage?

I just got my third TiVo, a series 2 DT. I already have a series 2 80 hour and a series 2 40 hour. I think that I would like to only have full TiVo service/subscriptions on the new one and on the 80 hour machine. However, is there a way that I can still use my 40 hour one by having it connected to another TV (or even the same TV as one of the other TiVos, don't know if that is possible either) and to my wireless network? Then I could transfer shows to the 40 hour machine for storage if I know we won't be watching them right away or whatever. Can I still use the regular TiVo interface (Now Playing, etc) even if I do not have a subscription on that machine?

Thanks so much for any help!

The only thing you can do with an unsubbed S2 is to watch Live TV (including the 30 minute buffer w/trick play) and watch previously recorded programs. There is no MRV or any other functionality.

Programs can be stored on your PC using TiVo Desktop, and you can later transfer them back to your subbed TiVo when you are ready to watch the programs. The unsubbed unit makes an effective doorstop or can be used as an anchor for a (very light) boat.
