I am thinking about buying 2 Tivo HD boxes. One will be for myself and one will be for my girlfriend (who lives about an hour away). Can I keep both on the same account? Also, is there any deal for purchasing multiple units? Thanks and sorry if this has been answered in a previous thread.

Tivo.com does not offer any deals on the purchase of multiple Tivos. Other retailers could, but I've never seen one and wouldn't expect to see it. Of course you can keep both on the same account, but if you want to get a discount on the second subscription (MSD), both Tivos need to be at and connecting from the same address. If they are not, it is a violation of the TOS.

That said, you'll likely have no problems if you do it (put the Tivos on the same account).
Every time this topic comes up, nobody can point to a single person that has Tivos in more than one house, on the same account and getting the MSD has had a problem.
It would be trivially easy for Tivo to verify that all the boxes on the account are downloading the same channel lineup, but they don't.

But overall I agree, TiVo does not go out of their way to check.
Note that my TiVos are downloading at least 3 different channel lineups, so that won't work without more info. But I believe TiVo does have access to the zip code.

Thanks for posting that, I haven't been around in a while. That's the first I've heard of anyone getting "busted".
I was more referring to lineups from different locations, but yeah, cross checking against ZIP codes is easier.
In my case I called Tivo and said "this Tivo doesn't belong on my account, it's a gift and will be located at my parents house - please remove it". After several calls were met w/o success I finally said "screw it" and stopped trying to do the right thing. If they want my money, they know where to find me.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I just know, the day AFTER I purchase the two Tivo HDs, the price will drop to $199. Ohwell, that's just the way it goes with technology.

If you don't mind dealing with them, buy the TiVOs at Best Buy, they have a 30-day price guarantee. You then have to watch how the price goes, but if you catch them lowering it they WILL give you a refund of the difference. I bought a plasma screen from them in late November, watched the price drop $300 just before Xmas, and got the full $300 credited to my M/C. Of course, corollary 37 of Murphy's law says they'll drop the price 31 days after you buy...

Amazon has a 30-day price guarantee as well. I think there are websites that will track price reductions and notify you.
