OK, so I picked up the TiVoHD recently, took advantage of the lifetime service deal for $399. Now I have a series 2 I hardly use. Was wondering if I could deactivate it, then re-activate it under the MSD discount? How much would it be then?

I have heard that TiVo will bring it down to $6.95 a month if you call and ask to cancel due to high cost, is that still true?

The S2 should automatically go to the MSD rate which has been raised to $9.95/mo. unless it's still attached to a 1,2 or 3 year fixed rate monthly commitment i.e. if you are paying $14.95/mo for two years, you are stuck with that until the two year period ends.
You'll never see the $6.95 rate again.

I got the series two in 10-2005 and I don't think I was in a 3 year contract. I got billed $12.95 today. Guess I will have to call and find out WTF??

i have a S2 with a lifetime and got a tivo hd for christmas. i am debating whether i should do the $9.95/month, $99 one year or the $399.00 lifetime deal...

any thoughts out there?

I did the lifetime, figured I would either keep it for 4+ years, or sell it in a few. Would be keeping the series 2 if I had a second tv to hook it to (may keep it if I can get the MSD). Most people who bought series 2 with lifetimes can still sell them for $100+ or so on e-bay. I know that right now I see tivoHD's with life time's for $700+ on there. Hell, you could buy one, give it a lifetime, then sell it at a small profit.

BTW, love the screen name !!! (look closer at my Avatar!)

It depends on your needs. There is also a $199 deal. For $199 you can transfer your lifetime from your S2 to the TivoHD, with the transfer TiVo will give you 1 year of service on the S2 that used to have lifetime.

Personally, I would not do the $99 one year deal. I am a fan of lifetime since the box always has some value in the aftermarket and in the long run, lifetime is less expensive.

If you can use 2 TiVo's in your house (1 HD, 1SD) and can afford the $399 then do lifetime on the new HD box.

If you plan on upgrading to 2 TiVo HD boxes (at some point) or only need 1 TiVo then go for the $199 transfer.

Not necessarily. In order to transfer a lifetime for $199, that lifetime sub needs to have been purchased before 10/3/04.

Sorry this is incorrect. MSD has been changed and is now for new subscriptions only. You'll have to cancel the S2 sub and resubscribe it.

Oh yeah, fine print. I forgot about that.

However, I just looked and the correct in-service date is 10/1/03.

That's right I have 2008 on the brain so 4 years earlier would be '04 but it's still 2007.

Yeah, that is fine, will likely cancel it and then re-start it in the next few days. Tried to call today and they were not open... odd.

Thanks for the help.
