I upgraded my HDVR2 hard drive using the zipper several months ago. Worked great. I had some trouble with the IP address and didn't connect to it to run the enhancements script until yesterday.

I ran it, everything worked great. Connected via Tivo Web Plus, did happy dance of joy.

Tried to actually watch a show...no go. When I play something off the NPL I get the "are you done with this program" screen, and once I select "Don't Delete" it says "The Recorder was not able to record this program because there was no video signal on the channel. You may have been trying to record on a channel that you don't receive." Pressing 'select' takes me back to the DTV central screen.

I poked around here (a lot!) and came up with several similar problems, all of which seemed to revolve around the DNS setting. I changed it from 4.2.2.2 to 192.168.1.1 (my router) and it seemed to be work. I can't recall now how many programs I tried.

This afternoon it was back to Not Working. It appears that programs recorded before I monkeyed with things last night won't play, but recordings since then will. That leaves me with five hours of (crappy) viewable television and 378 hours I can't see. :D

The DNS was back to 4.2.2.2, so I set it back, but this time it didn't fix the problem. I tried 0.0.0.0, and briefly had the "blank now playing list" problem. I edited /etc/nsswitch.conf to remove DNS with no change.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm sure this has been Done To Death so feel free to point out better search terms or links to similar threads!

Sounds like 2 problems. One is the slow NPL, and the other is recordings that give you the error: "The Recorder was not able to record this program because there was no video signal on the channel. You may have been trying to record on a channel that you don't receive." The first problem is indeed caused by DNS. The second problem could be caused by resetting your diskconfiguration key. This might happen if you answered "no" when the Zipper asked you if you had any recordings you wanted to keep.

I definitely wouldn't have answered no to that! Is there a log somewhere I can confirm?

Any suggestions on how to fix?

I no longer have the slow NPL--I fixed that with the DNS changes. It's "just" the lost recordings.

Thanks!

Well, crap. I just did some further reading and learned the "do you have any recordings you want to keep" was asked during the initial zipper setup. At that point I didn't have any recordings to keep since it was a new hard drive. Unfortunately I've recorded a couple of things over the last five months.

Fortunately, the writer's strike has made it so there isn't all -that- much on there...of course, there won't be anything new to fill it up, either!

I believe any shows you record after using the Zipper, but before running the enhancement script will get screwed up after you finally use the enhancement script. It's what Russ said. The advice given on the site is to run the enhancement script immediately after using the Zipper to prevent this from happening. It sounds like you're SOL :( .

I think this post is similar to your problem: link (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4158631#post4158631)

Include "diskconfiguration" in your search terms and you'll find better results.

Edit: See this thread that Russ answered the same question to:
Can't watch any recordings after Zipper (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=361503)
