I've had today's mini-marathon of Stargate Atlantis running while I was cooking in the kitchen. Hands full meant more than my normal share of commercials got watched / listened to.

There have been ads for a New Years Eve marathon of The Twilight Zone on SciFi. What I can't believe is the bits I've seen have been the punchline of the episodes.

I didn't notice the trend at first, but I know they showed the climax of both To Serve Man and Time Enough at Last. I'm not a spoilerphobe at all, and I've seen both of those many times, but that's a bit much. It's like a commercial for a whodunnit by showing the detective announce it was Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Pipe Wrench.

On the other hand... is there anybody left on the planet that hasn't seen every episode at least twice?

You know, they keep making new people.

IT'S PEOPLE.

oh wait, different movie.

I would hope the 'new' people wouldn't be watching hacked up reruns when the shows are on DVD.

As for the spoilers, while things like TV movies (and some series) have been doing the kind of 'after the break' spoilers for a while, I only recently realized that the prime time game shows do the same thing, very often ruining/diluting the manufactured tension they create by waiting until after the break to say if someone got the question right. (i.e. the 'after the break' segment shows the same contestant answering further questions.)

While I FF through these things (and a lot of the content of the prime time game shows, or at least watch then at 1.5x with sound on my non-tivo recorder), I noticed those spoilers.

I love twilight zone, probably seen like 20-30 eps, but I never wanted to buy or even rent them as there are SO MANY of them.

I'll just randomly watch it if it's on.

So i'm watching today :D

At a certain point, spoilers pass on from being spoilers to being cultural touchstones.

I haven't seen the vast majority of the hour long episodes. I wish (should contact them again) netflix would get the season sets, since I could then easily get just the hour long season(s).

Plus, there's at least one more episode (the 'racism' episode with at least one Trek actor) that isn't in the regular syndicated runs..

I believe that's "The Encounter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Encounter)", starring George Takei. It's on "Treasures of The Twilight Zone (http://www.amazon.com/Treasures-Twilight-Zone/dp/B00000I20F)" along with "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" (which is also never shown in syndication; it's a short film not produced with the series but aired with it) and the original pilot.

Interesting, I has somehow missed that one. I've seen the other "lost" episodes after they were returned to the syndication package ("Sounds and Silences", "The Miniature", and "A Short Drink From a Certain Fountain"). These were kept out because of some legal disputes, but around 1984 the rights were finally cleared up.

As for "Star Trek" actors, James Doohan has a very small role in "Valley of the Shadow", and Nimoy plays a soldier in "A Quality of Mercy". Shatner's parts, of course, are impossible to miss in "Nick of Time" and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".

Apart for the regulars, there's a lot of crossover with Trek guest stars.

There's only five seasons. I REALLY want the complete definative set. I was *this* close to getting it for Christmas.

I don't mind the spoilers...and I think that for true TZ fans, we know the punchlines anyway, and for those that don't know the secret, they might not be able to relate it a specific episode anyway. But I think they're old enough now to be considered classics...like if someone were to say, "Luke, I am your father..." no one would really consider that a Star Wars spoiler.

*hmm...or maybe they could and I should spoilerize taht last sentence. :p

oh god, my 9 year old nephew hadn't even heard of it and he loves the modern Outer Limits. I was like, are you aware there was another Outer Limits before this awful 1990s one?

Just watched an episode that Final Destination basically ripped off, well for the opening of the movie anyways.

Funny watching these and see how many episodes were ripped off/spoofed
