Can't believe they made people get tattoos for the FF  Neenahboy was right.

And what was that about no NELs ?? I'm ecstatic that the Goths are still in it. The concept of the Speed Bump is interesting. Ya figure it's something that could take 10 minutes or 2 hrs so that people could still have a chance if they aren't in last already.

It will interesting to see how the Speed Bump works out. It is going to have to be something that "Could" be done quickly, but could also take a lot of time (needle in a haystack) maybe?

I wonder if they had a choice of where the tattoo would be placed? I would have wanted it on the shoulder blade so that I could hide it better. I wonder if a female could have gotten in a less obvious place (small of the back or ankle?)

Sounded like Kynt messed up the clutch on that car. They possibly could have got it into gear by jamming it hard, but then again, maybe not. I don't know why Kynt was freaking out about Vixen's driving, then he gets in, and oh yeah, he barely knows how to drive a stick and the clutch goes out. Good one.

TK and Rachel:
The Vinci sign must have been fairly obvious from the air because everyone else found it on the first try I believe. He must have just been too stressed and not looking in the right place.
Flat tire? 3 minutes tops. Maybe that's another thing to practice before going on the race.
1. Learn how to drive stick.
2. Learn the difference between a gasoline engine and a diesel engine.
3. Learn how to change a tire in 3 minutes.

And the season's award for most useless product placement is the Blackberry that they can't actually use for anything except receiving an SMS...

I checked out the route (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=2590755762989422056,43.196320,12.635170&time=&date=&ttype=&saddr=ancona,+italy&daddr=empoli,+italy&mra=mr&mrcr=0&sll=43.699651,12.178345&sspn=1.759266,3.658447&ie=UTF8&ll=43.92955,12.216797&spn=1.752507,3.658447&z=8&om=1) between Ancona and Empoli on Google Maps and the fastest way normally is via Bologna. Yay, sig fodder! :)

I was kinda hoping Nate and Jen would get it so we could be treated to a patented Jen freakout when she realized what it was. :D

The Amazing Race: providing tramp stamps since 2007. :D

In all seriousness, I hope the producers researched the artist. I was concerned when they exited and it didn't appear that they had been bandaged at all.

Yeah, that sign looked huge, and you'd think his first instinct would be to look around the riverbank. I was shocked it took him FOUR times, though. I was expecting two tops.

The local who told the team to head south did mention that you could go via Bologna, but this wasn't a good time. It was one of those times when asking for directions gets you some information on conditions that don't show up on the map.

When it came down to the two teams who might be eliminated I was really hoping for the first non-elim leg. Those are the two women I most enjoy watching on the show.

I'd hoped for more footage when Nathan & Jennifer came in 2nd ( Due to the guys winning the FF ). It would have been an opportunity for Jen to throw another tantrum and explain to us all that it wasn't fair.

Why would your first instinct be to look along the river bank? I don't get it.

It just seemed like the riverbank area had all these wide open plots of land, whereas farther out it was all residential.

Wow, getting tattooed for a non-elimination leg fast forward. :pWell, they did get the vacation. That's not a bad deal.

Except that it's a vacation for two! That's so lame IMO. If the team isn't a couple, then they ought to spring for some extra seats for spouses or SOs. Come on Travelocity!

I was pulling for the goth team until last night. With all the complaining about Vixen's driving and him screaming "shut up shut up shut up" at her, I've decided I've been mispronouncing Kynt's first name all along.

I do love Vixen, though, and was happy it was a non-elimination. She has got a really pretty face under all the goth makeup.

I think my favorite team now it TK and Rachel.

Don't they *each* win a trip for two?

CharlieW

I was impressed with how TK & Rachel handled themselves in the face of elimination. They truly had a terrible leg, appeared to be on their way out -- but mostly took it in stride. In my opinion they, along with the grandfather & grandson, are racing with the right frame of mind. It would be nice to win, but enjoy the race. Take a second to absorb the places you've been lucky enough to visit.

I'll be happy if either of them win --

after that - Kynt & Vyxen, Nate & Jennifer and finally abusive father & target daughter.

I thought it was really funny that Kynt was wearing a t-shirt with a word on it (dang, what was that word?) but it started with an F that looked a lot like the Fs that were tattooed on the other team. It was that old world style F. I guess if the Goths had gotten the fast forward it would have been no big deal.

Why was he screaming at her in the car anyway? Did I miss something? It looked like she was just trying to turn around and later he told her she was throwing a tantrum?

I really don't feel it was right for TAR to have them get tattoos for the FF. Shaving your head is temporary, bungee jumping is temporary. Tattoos.... not so temporary. Plus it's like a medical procedure with the needles. The teams have no idea how safe that parlor is and the after-care for the tattoo didn't seem to be addressed either. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah, Julie and I were wondering why they didn't have the tattoos bandaged up. I had thought that was standard procedure.

I would especially be worried if they have any more challenges(Road Blocks/Detours/etc.) involving getting down and dirty.

Personally I think Vyksin is getting cuter and cuter while Kynt is looking more cartoonish and spoiled each episode.

lalTo be fair, they aren't forced to do anything. They could have turned back and done the challenge instead. In fact, they probably had plenty of time to go back and still beat two teams.

And we don't really know if the after-care was addressed. We saw them leaving the parlor, arriving at the mat, and in a post-interview. Bandages wouldn't have looked good on camera, so they might have filmed them leaving the parlor for show, and then bandaged them. And they might have removed the bandages for the mat and for the interview, and put them back on right after. For all we know, they might have had a nurse following them around for the rest of that leg.

I didn't think the tattoo challenge was right, either. I've never seen any other challenge that would be a permanent change to a person's body, bringing medical risks with it, and I don't think it's fair to ask. I know it was just a FF, but still . . . .

Small world moment for me: the teams went through Spliit, Croatia to catch a ferry. Over the summer I took a cruise on the Royal Princess and managed to get a bridge tour. The Second Officer that conducted our bridge tour was from Spliit (and in fact was due to disembark for his time off next time the ship visited the port).

I don't much mind the tattoo, but it kinda sucks they had it in a non-elimination.

I think that has been one of the bad things in the last few years, there seems to be some things that happen in a non-elimination leg that should be in an elimination leg.

Examples aren't coming to me now though.

I'll be curious to see what the "speed bump" is. Hopefully it's not so tough they're totally screwed, or so trivial it doesn't do anything. Even if it's perfect, it only has to be better than watching people beg for money.

They've already used this for the U-turn, but I'd thought for a while that a perfectly acceptable penalty would be to have the team do both of the detours. Together with no additional money for that leg would be tough, but usually doable. If the team were already four hours behind it might be hard to make up, but a bunch up would leave them with just the additional task and low money.

I don't think that they had used the "take all your possessions and money away" punishment for non-elimination rounds lately. I thought they used "marked for elimination" in the last season or two (where the last team that was not eliminated had to win the next leg or they were out).

But you are right, anything is better than watching the teams begging (especially in poor countries).

I'll also be interested to see how difficult the extra "speed bump" challenge is.

If you watch the extra videos on CBS's website, they show a video with Kynt & Vyxsin that address' their thoughts about tattoos. There's also a video that talks about Don & Nick's tattoos and some of their after care.

I won't spoil the content, so just check it out for yourselves. Each video is only about 2-5 minutes long.

Oh, there is one video I will spoil - there's a video of TK & Rachel and Jennifer & Nate swimming in the Adriatic Sea in their bathing suits!:p

Worst fast forward ever. If I had come up against that I would have been in the car driving back to the ultralights. At least the ultralights looked like fun (well, unless you had to take four rides on them.) It was an amusing coincidence that the "f" on Kynt's shirt was in a similar typeface of the required tattoo.

What's with Jen's complex about coming in first place? There's one leg where that matters, otherwise you're just missing out on stupid "trip for two" vacations that she wouldn't want to take with Nate anyway (not to mention the attached tax liability.)

I have to agree with others on the Blackberry. Most useless prop ever. Just print out the message if you're not going to allow the teams to actually utilize the technology.

I couldn't believe how long it took TK to find the words on the ground. I wonder if he just flat out missed it, or if the area they were searching was big enough that the other teams just got lucky to go to the right area first, while he started on the wrong end.

I loved when he and Rachel were racing the Goth gals at the end and he said something like, "I'm too mellow for this." That's the perfect temperament for the race, IMO. He realizes he needs to hurry, but getting worked up about it is abnormal. Too bad there aren't more teams like this.

My take on why Kynt was yelling at Vixsin to stop the car, was that she floored it down a narrow street when she couldn't turn around. I don't think either one handled it well.

My GF and I were both proud of Nathan and Jen because they completed the flag thing by actually working together and didn't call each other names and scream, etc. Still, we both feel this statement would be true when said to either person: "Why do you put up with that? You could do much better." - but then maybe that means they deserve each other...:p

If you believe the rumors elsewhere on the Internet(s)... :)

Kynt is supposedly really, really smart, with multiple degrees and everything. Book, looks, cover, all that.

As for his listed occupation, I'm not one to either A) give a crap about what people do for a living on this show (aside from a grumbling or two about an oversupply of actors/models/etc.), or B) worry about whatever reason Kynt had for putting that front and center.

One of the usual suspect boards says that Kynt's "non-goth" first name is Kent, and Vyxsin is Jennifer away from the Goth World.

They're both from Louisville, Kentucky. I'm sure the confusion by TAR viewers over their "goth" names is repeated dozens of times over in their hometown.

In earlier threads for this season there was talk about the fact that Kynt looked quite feminine (some even thought it looked like he had boobs) and the joke started about them being the "Goth gals", though everyone knew the team is mixed gender. Common knowledge to we who have been discussing this all season and something that a new-comer would not have known about from this one thread. And Vixen spells her name sinfully -- Vyxsin. Crazy, huh? Took me like an hour to figure that out and still no naked photos of her. What a waste of time. :o

Better be cheering for the Goths -- if they win, that will drastically increase the chances of Vyxsin being offered the opportunity to pose nude somewhere. :D

Please don't take offense to some of the comments you got as a result of your not knowing about this. :)

None taken....I appreciate the explanation. And now I fully understand :D

What's with Jen's complex about coming in first place? There's one leg where that matters, otherwise you're just missing out on stupid "trip for two" vacations that she wouldn't want to take with Nate anyway (not to mention the attached tax liability.)

She's ultra competitive. Nate even referenced it in this episode. Yeah, overall it might not matter but I would guess she always wants to be first in everything.

Why didn't they at least get the tattoo's in a less visible place like their ankles ? Did they have to get them on their arms ?

I am curious to see how the Speed Bump works out. Anyone know how teams did in the next leg of the race after coming in last in a NEL? I can't remember if they recovered or not. That'd be an interesting stat.

That'd be an interesting stat.I don't have any hard stats but I know that the hippies were last in a NEL at least once (I think twice actually) and they ended up winning the whole race.

I think the beauty queens might have been last a couple of times too and they ended up in the final 3.

I just got back from vacation and saw that 60 minutes ran 20 minutes late and since Cold Case was a rerun and didn't record I missed the last 20 minutes. I saw it up to the point that the tattooed team got to the mat and won their trip. So I take it that the Goth Gals came in last but it was a non-elimination leg so they survived (or was it TK and Rachel?).

The Goth's were last and yes it was a non elimination leg. Apparently this year they are going to be given an extra task as punishment.

...uh....yes....never watched the show before this episode....
In that case, welcome to TAR. I hope you keep watching, as it's one of the better shows on TV, and I hope you keep participating in the threads. The more, the merrier.
