View Full Version : So When Does Nip/Tuck Get Good?

I have heard may people say how great Nip/Tuck is. When the seasons were on sale for $15 each, I bought it to try. I have watched the first 3 episodes of Season 1 so far and I can't say I am impressed. Am I missing something? Do you have to get farther into Season 1? Am I just not going to like it?

It's not for everyone, but I'd give it a couple more episodes before you give up on it. I think the first season got good half way through...if I recall correctly.

I would say it got good about 2 minutes into the first episode if I recall it correctly.

Hmmm, I'd have to rewatch to remember or give you advice, because I honesty loved it from the start. Maybe if you decide you don't like them, someone *cough* might buy them from you, since they were so cheap and all. :)

I'm a bad person to ask. I liked year one and since then I think it's been all downhill. I finally gave up and stopped watching last year.

That's pretty much our situation, too, IJLT. We made it through Season 3 before we gave up.

year 1 and 2, if you don't like those, do NOT watch the next 2 as it's just downhill from there :D
-But i'm still watching, no clue why

Add another person to the group who just couldn't watch after the first year.

I saw a few episodes in the third season then went back and caught up on seasons 1 and 2 and continued with the 3rd. It started a deep dive down in season 4 and currently is exploring an underground cavern unimaginably further below even that (and as of two episodes ago has been deleted from the season passes).

I'd say you are pretty close to the point if it isn't grabbing you, it's time to give up.

If it's not for you, then it's not for you. What others say wont change your mind. Lots of people rave about stuff on this forum, I've tried a few, didn't care for it, so didn't continue to watch, didn't think about asking people to change my mind.

add another vote to "peaked in year 1 and went downhill thereafter."
i think we made it thru season 3, but have no desire to watch more. :D

I agree that is when it got bad.
Although this season is better than the previous 2.

i forget what season the 'paper bag' is but that was really over the top....I dont know if i'd call it good, but i'd say it was shocking.

Goodness, the paper bag wasn't until like Season 3.
The thing with Nip/Tuck is for all its hokeyness and over-the-topness sometimes it'll get you. They also seem to do a good job connecting things together by the end of each season. I know the way they ended Season 1 was great and connected it right back to the first episode.
I will agree that Nip/Tuck isn't for everyone. I'm usually simultaneously disgusted and riveted with the show, so I just stick around. Those two sides seem to get along with me pretty well. ;)

i thought last season and the first part of this season were poor to sucky, but for some reason, the last 2-3 episodes i've liked. starting with plastic fantastic, i guess, dunno why the premise and storylines are crap, i know they are crap, and yet, i find myself strangely drawn to the show still and laughing quite a bit while watching it.

Completely agree with your assessment on its trajectory. Ironically enough, though, the last two episodes have been significantly better than the rest of this season (admittedly, not saying much). The show did pick itself up by its bootstraps a bit, just when I was thinking of deleting the season pass too. I'm glad I waited, because these last two weeks have me somewhat interested in the show again. ("Every time I try to get out... they keep pulling me back in!")

I don't remember which season it was, but we couldn't stand it any more once they started using an urban legend as a major plot device.
Stealing organs and leaving people in a tub full of ice...
After that I stopped watching. My wife watched half of one more episode. Then she was done. Deleted from the SP from there.
It's almost like someone in the writers' room said, "Fsck it. This is Nip/Tuck. Just show some male arse and some side-boob. Whatever else we do it doesn't matter. Oh yeah, toss in some story-appropriate music for the OR's 15 year-old B&O sliding door CD player."
I hope this doesn't come across as a "Threadcrap". I'm just disappointed in the show. I recommended it to a lot of friends. And I feel betrayed by the show and its creators (as much as a TV show can). Even the Sopranos didn't descend into FAIL as far and as fast as Nip/Tuck.

I will probably give it a couple more episodes and see what happens. Thanks everyone!

This show has gotten progressively worse, it used to be very provacative but now it's just a love triangle between Julia, Sean and Christian with a suppporting cast of innocent bystanders as plot filler. It really has lost it's edge last 2 seasons.

It's on it's last leg for me. I enjoyed S1&2, 3 was a struggle, and so far this year has sucked.

This seems to be exactly what is going on in season 1 episodes 1-3 with liberal doses of Sean trying to quit and Christian not letting him.

Stop watching when Famke Janssen shows up (or you get tired of their son Michael Jackson Jr)

SHHHHHHHHHHH! Don't say that!
We'll have to see Julian McMahon's ass more than we already do, and that's just not right.
I will say this though, the son doesn't look like Michael Jackson Jr. this season.

You're going about it all wrong. You watch a few episodes once a week then take a break for two years. That's the only way I can enjoy it. A little goes a long way.
It's kind of like the nintendo wii!

By the way, I don't know if I can label season 1 the best, because there was a lot of Julia. And honestly the show is only at its best when Julia is not on it at all.
