Hey guys,
I am having severe problems with TTG 2.5.1 and my S3 box. Here is what is happening.
- My PC sees my S3 and can see all the videos files
- My S3 can see my PC and all the files in the video folder
- When I start a transfer from either system it starts and then just stops about 10-30 seconds in and quits.
-- One weird thing, if I start a transfer on the S3 and press that play while it is downloading the I can see the start of the video, but then it just stops.
-- If I wait till the file seems to stop downloading (again 10-30 seconds in) I get this error on the S3 "The Tivo HD DVR was not able to record this program because there was no video signal on the channel. You may have been trying to record on a channel that you don't receive"
I have a good connection between the systems (Hard wired) and I have turned off all virus and firewalls and still nothing fixes this issue. Any suggestions?

Ouch, it certainly does feel to me that you have a network issue of some sort (duh!)--is there anything between the S3 and your PC ie. switches, hubs, routers or is it a long direct cable connection?
- if a direct cable, is it a crossover?
- if switches or a router, have you reset those?
- if a hub, can you get rid of it in favor of a powered switch"
The only other thing I can think to try is to go with a fixed IP on the S3 and see if that makes any difference.

I will try these, but I ran a ping during the whole process several times and had zero packet loss. Also, I can download Unbox movies with zero issue as well.

Here's the kicker, I can't even go to the https:// site on my S3 and download a file. It starts, just like with the desktop, and then just stops about 10-30 seconds in. I have a feeling my Tivo is borked somehow... great!

Every video or just one in particular? Do you have access to another computer to try the transfer from?
What kinda of computer do you have? Particularly the chipset/NIC? There was a know problem with nForce 3 chipset awhile back.

I have a feeling my Tivo is borked somehow...I have the same feeling--but two more questions:
1. Did it ever work???
2. Have you done a simple reset on the S3...

Just got the Tivo, and have soft and hard reset the S3. Oh well, calling tech support tomorrow and finding out.

I have a Marvell Yukon on my Asus P5AD2-Premium. I will try another nic just to see if there could be an issue there, thanks.

Besides the great advice you're getting here, you should consider reading through the following thread:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=374790
Are you getting the error on all programming or just certain HD programming?
Also, where are you seeing the error message you gave us?

Yeah, I checked out that post. The problem is, every and I mean every transfer I am trying to make dies about 10 seconds in. I have tried from several machines, wired and cross cable. It all boils down to my S3 is killing the transfer shortly after it starts.
I have soft booted, hard booted, and almost thrown my S3 to get it to work. At this point I wish I could reinstall the OS on the S3 and get it back up to the current rev level. I have a feeling something is borked in the OS somewhere.
Oh, I also did the trick of going to the website and turning off transfers waiting till it propagates down and then turning it back on the website and letting it propagate down to see if it just didn't get all the settings right the first time.
If I do the delete all option does that put the tivo down to the stock OS level of when I received it?
I can post a transfer log if someone wants to read it. I can't see anything there that says why it is happening.

There are images on the net (I have one but it is way to big to offer it too you , sorry :()
google "Tivo.Series.3.TCD648250B.Virgin.Image.Supafly.mfs". Not sure where to get it anymore, got mine from a torrent, but they all seem to be down.
A really easy solution is to buy InstantCake. I think I read (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=5624467#post5624467), they don't offer a download of the S3 image for some reason, but you can purchase the CD version and have it mailed to you.
This kinda suxs though...
http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=384&Category_ID=5&page=prod&type=Model&ModelID=115
Note that this version of InstantCake uses a boot CD which does not directly support SATA interfaces. To use this version of InstantCake, you will need an IDE - SATA converter which is available for purchase on our site.
You might try kickstarts 57, 58, 52.

Unless I missed it, I'm not sure you've completely ruled-out a PC problem yet--have you tried running Tivo Desktop on a 2nd pc?
I hate returning stuff myself but it looks like that might be the best option at this point. Let us know what Tech Support says (though probably they are "off" today!). :o

Ok, so I tried 57 & 58 with no luck. I am kinda concerned to do 52 after reading what it does. Will this break any warranty I have? Also, if I do this I will have another root install. Can I do this again in the future or is this a one shot deal? I may wait to talk to Tivo support before I do this one unless there are those out there that can give me some more details around this one.

52 just reinstalls the current software revision. It is the same as if you had gotta an update. It doesn't erase anything or reset anything. Just basically installs to the "alternate" partition.
Worth a shot.
Just can do it as many times as you like. It will just reinstall back n forth between partitions.

Kewl, may try that in the morning before I call the dreaded help support number.

Well, partial win. After doing the reinstall onto the alternate partition I can now transfer files from the S3 to the computer with no issues... wohoo
Now for the weird news. When I try and transfer a file from the computer to the S3 it will start to transfer but then the server on the computer pegs at 100% and then the download stops.
Any ideas?

Bail on TivoDesktop and give pyTivo a shot. You won't be disappointed.

I reinstalled the TiVo software using that kickstart thing... still no HD download love for me.
EVERY high def show I try to transfer from my Series3 to my Mac or my PC fails about 10 seconds into it.
I've tried multiple computers, multiple transfer methods (official and unofficial) and I'm at a loss. The only thing I haven't tried is hardwiring my computer and TiVo (I'm all wireless) because it would be very inconvenient.
Any other suggestions?
I have HD recordings that I'd really like to transfer. Basically HD-TiVoToGo is a big lie as far as I'm concerned. It never works; never has. :(

Which wireless adapter are you using? Tivo one or another brand?

TiVo brand.
But I just hooked up my TiVo and Mac wired to eliminate that. Wired did the same thing. Failed at 26mb out of 21gb.
I tried it via Popcorn on the Mac and https: in IE in WinXP. Same exact thing each time.

I have fixed the last issue. I used TMPGEnc to convert the files to a more friendly tivo format and viola, everything is working. Thanks to all who posted and helped out, if it were not for you guys I would have gone nuts.
Happy holidays

Well, I decided to try another HD recording and this one worked. It fully downloaded and is now re-encoding itself w/ Popcorn. I'm also downloading an SD recording and that seems to work.
But it's not because of any changes I made to my setup because it's now back to normal (wireless) and I've had trouble in the past.
The one that's working is an HD OTA recording.
The one from this morning that didn't work was an OTA unencrypted QAM recording.
In the past I've had problems with digital SD OTA recordings.
I've never had a problem with an SD analog cable recording.
So there's no pattern except that digital (regardless of source or quality) seems flaky, analog cable is fine.

Spoke too soon. The HD OTA show only downloaded 30 out of 60 minutes. Better than 10 seconds but still not complete :(
