Ok, I'm looking to get a Tivo HD with Lifetime, I don't have Tivo currently. I'm completely willing to play the games to get it, but I just want to ask if anyone else has followed this route to getting it.

Order a Series2 with 1 year pay-by-month 12.95 plan and a Tivo HD with lifetime plan at the same time. Receive both in mail. Cancel Series2 monthly plan and return the Series2 for full refund. Keep Tivo HD with lifetime plan and live happily ever after.

Also 2 questions relating to Tivo, can anyone attest to the signal strength that the wireless card for Tivo HD can handle. The cable modem in my house is halfway across and up one floor, so I was curious about TTG. Second question, Does anyone on here have Tivo on comcast digital cable in the Eastern MA area and can they tell me if the CableCARDs are necessary to record the unscrambled HD channels(4,5,7,25,38, Discovery HD, etc)?

Thanks in advance from my first post!

Got a friend with Tivo that's willing to give you the TSN of his subscribed tivo?
If so, here's a better plan.
Go to http://www3.tivo.com/tivo-promo/show.do?pg=/buytivo/hdgift.html and enter your friends TSN and than click "Buy Now" and choose the purchase w/o registering option.

I am willing to search for said Tivo friends, but for now, let's assume that I don't have any. I tend to be the ultra geek of my group. Most of my friends don't really know how to set up their HDTVs, nevermind Tivo. I sometimes think they don't start getting a new piece of tech until I have some experience in setting it up.
hehehehehe

I received a PM from a longtime poster on these boards offering their TSN for me to unlock the the Lifetime Tivo HD offer, so long as they get referral credit. I'm putting this out there to others to ask if they did this, and does this situation open up any possibilities involving identity theft or other people seeing your credit card info?

Regarding your cable card question, TiVo may be able to find the unscrambled local HD stations, depending on how they are designated by your cable co., but without cable cards you likely won't be able to get guide information for them so any recording would have to be through manual settings. Also, the cable companies sometimes change the channel designation for these channels, and without a cable card TiVo won't be able to track any changes. At least that's my experience here in the Midwest. YMMV. :)

Cable cards are sometimes a hassle to set up, and there is usually a monthly fee, but on the whole a Series 3 or HD TiVo is little better than a Series 2 dual tuner TiVo without them.
