View Full Version : Transferring shows disappear!

When transferring shows to my S2 (stuff I've downloaded and converted with Videora), I'm finding they frequently stop transferring and completely disappear from the "Now Playing" list (they aren't in the deleted file, either).

This is a new computer, and the first time I've used Vista. I'm used to having shows only partially transfer, but I'm not used to it happening this often, and I'm definitely not used to seeing them vanish like this.

Any ideas?

Any info in the ToDo list as to why the transfer stopped?

Can you watch them once the transfer begins?

Yes. And if there's a problem with the transfer while I'm watching it, the transfer stops but the show stays put. If I'm not watching it, it's gone.

^Bump.

I'm seeing the same exact problem. If I'm not watching the show it just disappears completely from the NP list. If I'm watching it the transfer stops, but the partial recording remains in the NP list. Either way, once I get the transfer error I have to start the transfer over from the beginning.

Fairly new computer running Vista Ultimate and TiVo Desktop Plus. Transfers had been working flawlessly for about two weeks on this setup, but starting last night I started having problems with 3 separate transfers stopping early. Has happened multiple times with each file as well.

Any ideas?

Exact same issue here. This started for me about 2-3 weeks ago. S2 + TD2.2 + Videora.
The error is reproducible by starting the transfer from the PC while a "Tivo Suggestion" is being recorded.

Example:
Queue transfer. Transfer starts. Tivo Suggestion starts recording during or after the transfer starts. Transfer disappears from Now Playing List (blue icon). To Do list shows requested transfer with details: Transfer will begin after previously scheduled transfers have completed (or something similar).

The transfer CANNOT be deleted from the To Do list without a reboot. It allows you to select "Cancel," however the program stays in the To Do List until you reboot.

***If you don't cancel the transfer before the reboot, it will stay hung in the To Do list and will never transfer.

I've had to reboot the Tivo daily, and now have to schedule my transfers when I know they will not be interrupted by Tivo Suggestion.

---I'm starting to think that this may be affected by scheduled programs as well.

Previous to this problem I was able to:
1 Record scheduled or manual live TV
2 Transfer a program from my PC
3 Watch a previously recorded show

All at the same time!

I'm sure there were performance issues as far as transfer times during all of this, however I never saw any errors with the transfer. I wonder if a software update incorporated some sort of QOS or prioritization while recording.

Well I can say on my end that this is not related to another show being recorded. I have nothing hooked up to the video-in on the TiVo, have deleted everything from the SPM, and turned off suggestions. All of my content on TiVo comes from downloads or transfers from my PC. At first I thought it was an error because I was downloading something from Unbox at the same time as I was attempting a transfer, but subsequent attempts when nothing was being downloaded have also failed. My success rate is down to about 25% now, and some files seem to have a lot more trouble than others, but usually by continually restarting the transfer I can get it to eventually completely transfer, but it can take 6-7 tries. It was very reliable until the time of my first post. One of these days I'm going to try pytivo to see if I have better luck.

One of these days I'm going to try pytivo to see if I have better luck.

Pretty easy to setup...

I would install pyTivo using the Windows installer version.

But first you will need to install Python (http://www.python.org/download/)2.5.1. When I ran the pyTivo installer on my new Vista machine tonight it said I didn't have Python installed even though I did, but it still worked.

pyTivo just appears as a CMD window when it is running. To transfer videos to your Tivo, you do it from the UI on your Tivo...

If all is well, at the bottom of your Now Playling List will be a new entry with the name of your pyTivo share. Probably "My Videos".
