My cable provide is Time Warner in Manhattan. On my Series 2 Tivo, no programs are copy protected except, I believe, a movie I got (and subsequently have deleted) from Amazon Unbox. On my new Tivo HD, with a M-card, over 50% of the programs are copy protected, even if they are not broadcast in HD. I don't know how it's decided what is copy protected. I thought I might be able to reduce the recording quality which would lead to the programs not being copy protected but this didn't work (and is not even possible for digital channels). I tried to switch to recording from SD channels instead of HD channels where both exist for a station, but even the SD channels are copy protected. Because of all this I have not been able to get rid of my Series 2. I now have 2 Tivo's sitting right next to each other recording the same programs: 1 to watch HD, 1 to be able to use TTG. I hope that someone can tell me how to legally get the HD to record without copy protection (through proper setting or whatever). Or, I at least warn people about to swich to HD that TTG may be pretty much useless after the switch.

It is because they are digital they can be copy protected. The only thing you can do is talk to your provider of the issue.
