Will series 1 tivo have remote codes?

My parents will be connecting the s-video from a new directv H21 HD receiver to their series 1 tivo, and use component directly to the tv for HD.

The reason they are doing it this way is they have a lifetime sub and no locals from directv. Anyway, to the point, will the philips series 1 have updated remote codes to operate the H21?

Yes.

The IR Database gets somewhat regularly updated, even on the Series 1. It is doable because the IR database entries are database objects, not part of the never updated system software, so an IRDB update slice can be sent to add a code to a TiVo.
