I've been watching the first episode of "Not Just the Best of the Larry Sanders Show" and on the audio commentary, one of writers used the term "smeeked"...

I thought that was quite unusual.

What was the entire sentence? Did they mean it similar to how we use it?

Discussing the set:

Peter Tolan: This is our regular writer's room. So I don't know if you were trying to smeek this, but you can see there's the bulletin board in the background...

Could we get a definition and history lesson on the origins of the word "smeek" in the context of what it means on this forum?

I've been on this forum since 2000 but I don't visit often enough to have ever picked up on "smeek" and what it means and where the word comes from.

to smeek
to post a comment on a thread that has already been posted possibly more than once betraying the obvious fact you haven't read the thread.
It was not used properly n that DVD comentary.

The word itself comes from TCF member jsmeeker (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/member.php?u=3197), who is constantly doing the very thing Gunny describes.

The way they used it on that DVD wasn't smeeking.

Smeeking is when you post in a way that makes it obvious that you haven't read the thread. It's derived from forum member jsmeeker.

I've nver been sure what the term was supposed to mean either. I had just noticed it used on this DVD, and I wanted to know if anyone else could confirm this as fact. I could probably isolate it as a short audio clip, but I'm not sure I could upload/host it.

Seems to me the real significance is that Hollywood types actually spend enough time on the TCF to have picked up the terminology.

Thanks guys. I was vaguely aware it had some kind of connection to jsmeeker, but wasn't sure what it meant. :)

You know, that's not the sort of thing I would have expected to find in a forum FAQ. Live and learn.

I always have closed captioning on, but there isn't an option for subtitles. This is an alternate audio track with the two guys commenting about the production. The commentary is probably only a year old or so, as the compilation was released this year.

Are you sure he didn't say "sneak"?

Okay, yeah I think you're right. I've converted this audio to MP3 and then when I was listening critically with headphones, it was indeed "sneak", but with extra emphasis which is probably what called my attention to it..... Sorry:o
