View Full Version : VideoReDo TV Suite - Codec friendly?

I've been using Tivo Desktop 2.3 with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 for months now under XP SP2. Everything has been running smoothly--no codec problems, videos play smoothly, etc. The thing I hate about Easy 9 is that it seems much harder to edit out commercials compared to previous versions. I am considering purchasing VideoReDo TV Suite, but of course I want to use the trial version first. My question is whether I'm running a risk installing VideoReDo of somehow screwing up the codecs or anything else. Perhaps this is a stupid question, but the last time I tried some piece of similar software, my codecs got screwed up. I think I finally had to restore my PC from an old image to recover.
Any advice?

AFAIK, VRD uses its own captive codecs and should not interfere with any others.

No, it shouldn't cause any problems with existing codecs. I own TVS (after upgrading from VRD) and love it. It didn't cause any problems when I first installed it. It's a great application. Works really well marking commercials and now that it can burn DVDs, the process from start to finish is so much easier now, no need for other apps to render then burn.
After downloading the trial, be sure to register it (for free) so you can save more than 15 mins of video.

Thanks for the info! I installed the trial version last night. Have had little time to play with it, but so far the commercial detective doesn't seem to work well at all. Any tips on adjusting it or is that a feature (like in Roxio products) that isn't quite ready for prime time?

Ad detective works just okay for me, but I still have to go back and make corrections.
It's faster in the long run if I just cut the commercials manually.

It's definitely ready for prime time. Because of the nature of how each channel handles commercial breaks, I find that AdDetective does an admirable job of marking commercials, I always double check/adjust it before letting it cut them (Save As).
