View Full Version : TiVo Can Convert Pre-Pay To Lifetime

After answering a poster's inquiry, I thought this deserved to be a thread title. During a limited time offer subject to discontinuance without notice, TiVo can convert a prepay account to a lifetime account. (The lifetime is for the lifetime of the machine and is thus not pertaining to the words "limited time"). The way it works: remaining months of the prepaid amount will be credited toward the purchase price of the lifetime service for a TiVo unit. (i.e. a prorated adjustment.) I was told this by a TiVo c.s.r. in early November.

Limited time after prepaid was added to the box or limited time as in do it today cause come tomorrow this "offer" may not be around. I prepaid for 3 years about 1 year ago, so might be interesting to see how much extra it would be for me to "upgrade" to lifetime.

and you know it's true if a TiVo csr said it.
I'd bet the csr was referring to the 30 day guarantee policy.

Well my friend talked to a friend who works at Tivo so of course we all know it is true. ;)
As far as the OP goes I agree that it probably does have to do with the 30 days. I doubt that I can call a year later and pay a small "upgrade" fee and convert my prepaid to lifetime. Someone I think should try it and report back though. I mean I would but clearly I am busy at work :p

I'm confused about this - I wanted to go onto Monthly for 60-90 days and then buy a lifetime (i'm ok if the monthly fees are NOT applied to lifetime), but from reading the website maybe if I go on monthly I have to wait a YEAR to buy lifetime???
thanks

You can do that.
This thread is about converting a prepaid sub. Monthly subs. are an entirely different thing.
You commit to a year when you subscribe. If you change from monthly to lifetime, that covers the commitment.

Scandia - My apologies if I'm off-topic, but i have to correct you - I just spoke to 3 different TiVo reps, including a lead, and they all say that you cannot buy lifetime except
a) in the first 30 days, or
b) after the year is up.
be warned!

My sister started with monthly in August and then went to lifetime just before Thanksgiving Day.

no change - whatever it was before, they now claim there are no "conversions" allowed. you pick one service, and you're stuck with it for the term of that service. (after the 30 days).

Well that's their TOS. You agreed to it when you signed up.
