I am about to purchase either a Series 3 or an HD Tivo.

1.Are they both cabable of running the Home Media Option?

2.Is there an existing explanation somewhere of what this option does.....how it works?
Thank you.

what home media option are you referencing?

Multi-Room Viewing?

TiVo To Go?

Music, Photos, Products, and More?

if you are talking about these, S3 and TiVo HD do support them.

MRV is out for now as my second unit will be the FIOS STB

But I'd like to understand what Tivo 2go does specifically and how it works.

Will I be able to access media files that are on my desktops HDD such as my iTunes library, as well as video?

TiVoToGo specifically refers to transfering a recording from your TiVo to your PC. An mpeg is transfered that is encrypted. There are facilities for converting to portable formats, etc.

Check out the play any video and play any audio threads in this forum for more details and options.

There is a lot to learn if you want or you can do a few basic things quite easily.

...such as my iTunes library

I don't believe Tivo can play any iTunes purchased music (.mp4), only non DRM stuff (.m4a).

And then only when using Dan's plug-in (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=295778).

No problem. I do not use anything that is DRM.
Is that the plugin that is in the aforementioned forum posting?

Yeah, it is a sticky at the top of this forum.

Just to be clear, that plug-in isn't necessary for mp3 files.
