Hi,

After a fun day installing a Turbonet card and installing the additional tools, messing around with TiViweb etc. on my Thompson Series 1 Tivo. I now discover my TiVo doesnt record correctly!

I don't have an account with TiVo, I've been using my TiVo manually. I set up the TiVo to do test call over the LAN to update the clock. Account details says "Closed". Okay, when I playback programmes recorded prior to the hack updates, all seems fine. Programmes that are record after the hacks are zero truncated. They record at the desired times, all the menus and prompts seem normal but nothing is recorded. I've checked the ariel connection and basic setup, all seem fine.

So, I added the TurboNet card & installed the driver (DVUpgrade, Native), configured IP etc. (drive out). I can now FTP & Telnet and get a bash.

Added the tools (Thanks to Steve Jenkin's FAQ).
Loaded TiVoWeb, played with that (tried removing that, fault still there).

bash-2.02# df

TiVo: {/} % lsmod
turbonet 6976 0 (unused)
mixaud 5872 1
scartmux 2628 1
pxmpegdecode 65260 0 [scartmux]
therm 1164 0 (unused)

ideturbo 4920 1
fpga7114 146156 5 [scartmux]
i2c 10480 0 [scartmux pxmpegdecode therm fpga7114]

I'm lost here, any ideas?

Make sure your STB is plugged in to the AUX socket not the VCR socket. thsi would produce the effects you see.

Hi, I don't have a STB. Just the TV Scart connected. I've re-ran the TiVo guided intro again and checked the system hasn't re-configured another source apart from the antenna. Odd - now if I manually record a programme, it does record 5 seconds of the program with no sound then stops!

Can you explain this?

Does the program record and appear in now playing? What happens if you try to play it?

Yes, the programme records and appears in "Now Playing" The time is correct and the duration is also correct - in other words, it records for the correct duration and time, but when you view it during or after the event it only plays back for a very short period with no sound and after between 2-5s the screen glitches and then it freezes and then the normal invite to erase etc appears.

Sounds similar to when I upgraded my disk and forgot to run copykern, is that a possibility?

I havn't modified the kernal, just added the TurboNet drivers using the Silicondust's native_driver install.

I wished I'd checked the TiVo after I added the driver and established it hadn't broken anything. I could have done something subsequently.... HoHum!

I assume when you DON'T have active account with TiVo they don't disable manual recording? It seems odd that I did a test call (via the LAN) and I haven't for month now - even via a phone line (and all was working prior), after the call, its says I have a "closed" account. Just another doubt...

It only changes to Closed when you next do a call after the account has been Closed. Otherwise it will go on showing 4 Account in Good Standing until the next call after the account is closed is made.

Did you change the hard drive in the unit and what size hard drive do you have in it now? Or is it still the original hard drive it had when you acquired it?

How long have you had this particular Tivo and where did it come from?

The account was closed after I stopped calling TiVo as I removed the land-line. It's only at the weekend that I did a call via my LAN connection that I saw the 8 Account closed.

I've had the TiVo for about 4-5 years from new. It was upgraded to twin drives a couple of years back, one failed a few month ago and placed back the original 30-40g Quantum back in when I still had an active account.

Shame I didn't take a back up of the drive before I hacked it at the weekend. Lord know where I can get a image from now!
