We've got the HR20, upgraded dish and HD package. We don't get CBS in HD from DTV. When the installer came, he said our local CBS affiliate was the "only" one holding out with DTV over money issues.
Does this sound like BS or could this be true? Of course, there was no mention of this before agreeing to the install and new equipment!

Could be true.
ABC HD was the holdout here, I guess we just got it recently.
Apparantly Clear Channel was having issues with the rebroadcast rights ($$) for a lot of the stations they own.
Last year we (CBS) vanished from DishNetwork for a couple days, again due to rebroadcast rights and the money involved.

You have an HR20. Install the appropriate antenna and you should get your local CBS in digital form.
We don't get CBS in HD from DTV. DTV = digital television as in OTA signals. D* = widely accepted abbeviation for DirecTV.

I do have an OTA anntenna. Sometimes, though, CBS doesn't come in so great. All others come in fine.

Just enter your zip code here (or call D*): http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packProg/localChannels.jsp?assetId=900018

It only took me 2 tries to get my OTA situation corrected. I just read the Local HDTV section at AVS and found out that other's in my area were using a $25 UHF antenna from Radio Shack. I bought it and installed it in my attic. I now get all of the channels I want, 100% of the time when they are broadcasting.

Possibly. But if you live 50 miles out, and/or have hills/mountains between you and the broadcast antenna, even the 'correct' one won't help.

That's why the AVS Local HDTV section is the best section for these types of questions. A few people I've helped have turned out to be in neighboring subdivisions. You can't get much better than having people from your own area help especially when there's terrain issues that we know nothing about.

OTA can be difficult. In my case, I'm 9+ miles from the towers but with a hill in between. I put the Winegard 7084 with preamp on a 5' mast on the southern end of my roof peak. Nothing! Moved the antenna 25' to the north on the roof peak and now can get all locals (although somewhat sporatically depending on season. Winter time is the worst.) Luckily I have the DNS nets. :)
