Hello everyone,

I have a S3 and an S2, as well as, TTG+ (2.5.4 279957) on my PC. Everything works perfectly except for one thing. Things that I have on my PC that if I were to burn to a DVD and play, would play in Dobly Digital, however if sent via TGB they play in standard stereo.

I have tested this a few times...it works with TGB, but not in Dobly Digital...again, if I used ConvertXtoDVD or something similar, it would be in Dolby Digital.

This is even with content I have created myself.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

How do you know they're not playing in DD? I'm able to play DD-encoded videos via TTCB (using TiVo Desktop) on my S3 without problems -- both ones that started out as DD and those I've encoded to DD myself with the Aften encoder. In both cases, my receiver autodetects the digital Dolby stream coming over the optical connection from my S3 and plays it.

My receiver doesn't detect a DD stream when playing them. It would normally light blue (the DD "on" light) and I'd hear different things from the back speakers. For the TTCB stuff, I am not getting that, just normal stereo.

Thanks.

I noticed that MPEG2 videos with 5.1 audio sent to your TiVo from TiVo Desktop will play in 5.1 because there is no transcoding involved (and no TiVo Desktop Plus key is needed for this). But if you are transferring other supported file types that aren't MPEG2 (TiVo Desktop Plus key needed), then TiVo Desktop will transcode the files into MPEG2 and the audio will be converted into 2 channel stereo. I was disappointed with this since I have many MPEG4 videos with 5.1 audio that when transferred to my S3, lose 5.1 audio. To work around this, I convert my files into MPEG2 while maintaining 5.1 audio, then I transfer to my S3, although this is time consuming. I've resorted to just connecting my laptop directly to my TV and audio receiver to get the surround sound effect I wanted.

Rolento76 makes a good point here. Everything I've been playing with DD audio has been in MPEG2 format and thus isn't transcoded by TiVo Desktop.

Do you know the format of the video and audio streams in the content you're trying to play?
