I have a dead HR10-250 and wanted to use the drive (WD2500BB) in a PC as extra storage. After installing it and trying to access it all windows will recognize is around 8GBs versus the 250Gbs that it has. Ive read and searched all over the net and still im comming up short with an answer. My drive is not locked, ive used different software to check for that, as well as trying FDISK and a low level format. Its going into an XP machine if that makes a difference. Im sure the drive isnt dead otherwise it wouldnt work at all right? Any help or insight into what can get my POS to recognize the full capacity would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Right click on my computer, then click on manage, then click on storage in the box on the right, then click on disk management in the box on the right.
In this window it will list all drives in your PC, find your drive and see if it has a partition. I would bet that there is a partition that is setup as the primary
that is 8GB and the rest of the drive isn't setup for anything. Hope it helps you.

I've been to disk management, it only shows the 8Gbs as the primary partition. It doesnt show anything else but the 8 gigs. I figured it would at least show the rest as unallocated space that i could allocate then format, but nada. Its the weirdest thing and it has me stumped

Did you try the western digitals disc utility on it yet? Thats the only thing I can think of, other than spinrite.

you could try something like ranish partition manager
if all else fails, you could boot a live linux cd and just clear the start of the drive using something like: "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdd count=16"
be VERY careful you have the correct drive listed as /dev/hdd, or you could wipe out a good drive
