Anyone else having problems setting their Tivo HD to Native mode (I think that's what it's called)?

The default appears to be 1080i, which upconverts everything. I've got a Toshiba 42" Plasma, which I believe can do all 4 modes (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i).

The problem is that if I turn it to native (again, I think that's what they call it where the Tivo just passes the resolution through to the TV), I just get static. It blinks like 4 times (like it's trying to cycle through the resolutions), and they just don't work.

This is on the HDMI input, BTW.

I know the TV does 720p and 1080i on the HDMI (I used to have MythTV box hooked up to it).

I've only got 1 or 2 channels that do 1080i, the rest are 720p (for HD channels), so I'd prefer to not have to switch back and forth.

Are you sure the screen is blank on 720p and 1080i channels and not 480i? Some TVs will not do 480i over hdmi. In this case you could set it to one of the hybrid modes so it will convert 480i to 480p.

Thanks, I'll try that and see what happens.

There are three Hybrid modes. All three convert 480i to 480p, which is nice for TVs that won't accept 480i over HDMI. Hybrid 720p converts all HD to 720p, Hybrid 1080i converts all HD to 1080i, and there is plain Hybrid which passes HD through as-is.
