S3 as media server?

Forgive the ignorant questions: I want to make my next DIY project a media server for all my DVDs and TV shows recorded on DVDs, and I was wondering if there is any way to use the S3 plus multiple large capacity drives as a server. Is there a way to make the S3 see files other than what you record from its tuners, and is there a way to get the files into the S3? I hope these questions make sense....I'd rather do this than have an S3 and a separate HTPC.

You can, but it will be a lot of work. You have to get the video content into a format the S3 will understand. Encrypted DVD content can't be copied without violating DRM.
