2 days ago I was watching my tivo S2(with 2 Hard drives) when a grim message appeared "tivo unit is overheated..."

I immediately hopped up, unplugged it... I noticed the fan in the back wasn't turning, so I opened it up. I went to Fry's got a replacement fans (including the one that I got in the weaknees kit) and popped it in... now the unit sounds like it comes on, but I get no picture to the TV and the front LED does not come on!

what do I do? is there something that can be done to fix this one? the unit has been modified since I got it 4 years ago, and been in the same spot in the entertainment center...

if I get another tivo, can I put the Hard Drives from this one into the new tivo so that the data is not lost??

please help!

try the tivo button... if it was accidentally put into standby mode, it would act just that way.

if it isn't that, you should check that the white ribbon connector to the front panel is seated firmly... that can cause real problems (and even damage on some machines)

re: new unit and dropping in old hard drive... depends on how the tivo was "modified" 4 years ago. If it was hacked (including disabling encryption) it should be possible... otherwise, no. If it IS hacked that way, you should be trying to connect to the tivo... that'll give you a better idea if it's truly broken and how.

as far as "hacked" I don't think so, all we did was add a 2nd hard drive....

as far as "tivo button" do you mean the one on the remote?
