Dtv Dvr?

I'm about to get Direct TV.

What DVR would you guys recommend?

I want to be able to record DVD's from the DVR and recieve OTA HD signals and put them on the DVR if possible.

To get the new DirecTV MPEG4 HD channels and OTA HD you need the HR20. The HR21 doesn't have the OTA tuner. You can use a standalone DVD recorder to make DVDs from the DVR. However, they will be in 480i (SD) format.

What DVR setup would you recommend for Direct TV out of any of them? I'm a little confused with all the possibilities and terminology. For example would i be better off buying a DVR of my own at a store?

By the requireements you stated.

There is only one option... the HR20

And to ensure that you get an HR20... you will have to get it from a retailer, or ebay.

As to the last point...

All your DVDs you record, would have to be off the Standard Definition outputs of the unit... which are locked to 480i
