Downloading for 2 hours???

My phone line was disconnected for about a month.
I hooked it back up, forced a call, and it was in "downloading" for over an hour.
I killed it so I could use my phone. Forced another call and let it go into
"downloading" again for 2 hours before I had to kill it again to use my phone.
Why on earth would it need to connect for so long??
I'm running on 6.3e.

It's downloading a software update. That's the only thing that would take that long. Switch it to the serial port and connect it through some other computer. (use the google to find detailed how-to's. Mine's connected to a linux box, so it's dirt simple.)

It took me several tries and a very long time "downloading" to finally get a successful 6.3e update.
