(couldn't find a thread on this)
I had plenty of free space!

Has anyone seen this issue on their standard def DTiVo? I've NEVER seen this issue in my last >6.5 years of TiVo ownership until now. This isn't the "someone modified the season pass" nonsense that was happening a long time ago on DTiVo.

So, tonight I waned to check out the local NBC 11 news at 11 pm that I have an SP for. I couldn't find. When I checked Recording History, it claims "This recording was deleted earlier than planned because the space was needed for another recording on Wed 12/5 10:59 pm". Huh?

I right now have 17 suggestions so I have plenty of free space and had at least 10-20 when I left this morning. AFAIK, there was no 3 way conflict w/anything higher priority at that time slot. I noticed 2 other shows like this in the recording history, Larry King Live at 9 pm and The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch at 10 pm. They claim space was needed for another recording at and 8:59 and 9:59 pm respectively.

My software is currently 6.3e-01-2-121. Another bug?

How much stuff you have marked 'save until I delete'? This can drastically impact the amount of available space the software thinks it has.

You could always toss that teeny factory drive and install a new larger IDE drive for more space. I get ~265 hours from a 300gb drive.

DKerr24 is right, It is not a TiVo bug, It was a user bug. You should have upgraded your hard disk. All you can hope for is an early rerun due to the writers strike. You can buy a pre-imaged drive from DVRupgrade. They have a gold service plan where they will transfer all your saved shows to your new hard drive and place it in the newly reconstructed TiVo so you will still have the programs you saved along with the newly added space. You can email them to find out the turnaround time. Good Luck:)

It most certainly isn't a "user bug" if there are 17 suggestions recorded on the Tivo. If the unit is working properly, the suggestions should all be deleted before a season pass recording.

Another suggestion... do a restart of the unit. That could clear up some hard drive indexing problems and mark free space to the Tivo O/S.

Also, you do have suggestions turned off? I only turn on suggestions long enough to build up a number of suggestions, then turn it off. I check to see if any of these get deleted so that I know I'm nearing the full mark (although this has never happened on either of my DTivo units).

I just had this error on a TiVo with 70 suggestions. It's not a user error. It's a TiVo error. ""deleted earlier than planned because the space was needed for another program at 8:59" for a show recording at 9.

It already has been upgraded. I added a 160 gig drive to the stock 80 gig almost 3 years ago. System info reporst up to 204 hours capacity. All my TiVos except a Series 2 SA are hacked. I first started out using Dylan's boot (floppy) disk.

To answer Dkerr24's questions, there's a whopping 2 shows marked save until I delete for a total of 2 hours, 15 minutes.

As for rebooting. I had already rebooted 1-2 days before the problem happened as I was moving it to a higher capacity UPS I just bought. It's almost as if the reboot CAUSED the problem.

As for suggestions off? No, auto-record of suggestions is always on w/my units. Suggestions off == no free space indicator.

BTW, almost EVERYTHING on my TiVo is expired (has a ! by it). Without sitting here and counting, I'd estimate I have >120 hours of expired shows. Clearly, it could've deleted all of my suggestions + all of the above somehow to make room for the ~2.5 hours of shows that didn't record.

The behavior I saw is most definitely a bug.

I have the Tivo with dual tuner, and my system constantly deletes shows I've reocrded, claiming it needed space for a new recording -- even when I have NOTHING set to record. The show these *******s claim is set to record is always the same: **LIVE** (usually with 7 a.m. as the recording time). I've asked TIVO on numerous occasions through e-mail just what is going on, I also have tried to call (with no success). I suggest if anyone else is having the same problem, to get in touch with me at my e-mail address: Mikeon331@yahoo.com. I have access to people who work in the major TV netowrks and several national magazines. Let's show them that TIVO is screweing with us and they'll take the story national. If I hear from no one, I'll know TIVO is really running this site and I'll get my friends involved anyway. We pay too much to be screwed over by ignorant TIVO administrators and obsolete TIVO software. Let's get them!!!!

It absolutely IS NOT a user problem. TIVO is screwing with its subscribers. Anyone saying otherwise is a TIVO plant here. Lets' make them live up to their fiduciary promise: Supply us with recordings of the programs we choose. If they can't, then they should REFUND US OUR MONEY!!!!!!

I had this same problem with one of my programs this week too. I have never had this happen before and I have plenty of room as there are 82 suggestions recorded.
