Programming remote, which order?

What's the trick (or order) for programming the remote so that it turns on both my stereo and TV at the same time?

Somehow my remote got screwed up and only does one or the other. I tried searching as there used to be a post about the order which you need to program the remote.

Reset the remote:

1. press and hold DIRECTV & TV POWER, until the light remains on
2. press thumbs down 3 times
3. press enter, on the bottom row of the remote.

With the codes already in hand, you program:

1. press and hold DIRECTV & TV POWER, enter the TV code

2. press and hold DIRECTV & MUTE, enter the audio receiver code

3. press and hold DIRECTV & TV POWER, enter the audio receiver code again
