The bldg where I live has an antenna wire that I just plug in my lcd sony bravia 1080; My tv has an analog and digital tuner; the ota hd channels the digital tuner receives are very clear and nice.
Today I got a TIVO HD Series 3 but It can't pick up ANY of the hd channels, all of them are standard (480). I can see in the guide the hd channels but I just get a grey screen saying that I should see "searching for signal on: antenna in. 'messages & settings'/'troubleshooting' for info" I already reset the box twice plugging in the coaxial wire into the cable or antenna jack. I called TIVO and they say that I should get an signal amplifier and, if it doesn't work . . I can return and cancel my service before the 30 days warranty.

any ideas how to get hd channels in my tivo?

any ideas how to get hd channels in my tivo? You need to re-run guided setup and select antenna and cable. Then it will scan for all digital and analog channels.

Hi PL1, thanks for the quick answer. I did try that and still no hd channels. when I plug in the coaxial wire directly to my tv the hd channels like fox or wb11 have channels numbers 101.5 101.11 another channels have something like 117.1 (all of them at 720 or 1080)
Tivo guide shows fox hd as channel number 5.1 but it doesn't show anything, just a gray screen.
:(

:(You are getting the HD channels from your cable. In order to get the local HD channels, you must use an antenna (UHF, even rabbit ears) and you must plug it in the top coax of your TiVo. The bottom coax is for your cableco coax. If you have done all of that, I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Yes, you are right, somehow I'm getting a couple of cable channels (cbs, nbc, abc, PBS, tnt, tbs, etc) through the coaxial wire from the bldg. (Btw, I'm in Manhattan) I've never pay cable because I was getting SD OTA and now HD OTA and some how my sony bravia's built in hd tuner pick up those channels and surprisingly/unfortunately the TIVO HD SERIES 3 doesn't. Looks like I've been pushed to pay for tons of advertising and awful TV in order to enjoy the HD channels that are broadcasting OTA for free (and without commercials with my tivo).

Bravo cable companies Bravo! You finally won the war.

Bravo cable companies Bravo! You finally won the war.Of course, those stations are in fact STILL coming in. listed under those odd numbered channels. You have to go through them one by one to sort them out. And, you will have no TiVo Guide Data, but the channels are still there through the coax you are using.

How do you enter the extra channels? For instance, for OTA broadcasts, we have channels 3 (via cable), 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 (via the antenna). How do you enter a 3-2 with the key pad?

How do you enter a 3-2 with the key pad?Look closely at the "skip forward" key (above the 3). It's labeled (-) also.
