Picture is skippping frequently, takes forever (many minutes) to change a channel or access the guide. Anyone have an idea what this can be. I know it is not the signal because other boxes in the house are working fine.

How old is the hard drive? Is it older than the three year expected life?

Not sure of the model I check when I get home from work but it is the original unit, no upgrades have ever been done and it has been used about 5yrs.

As the drive is above its use full life it is probably slowly dieing. Without knowing more I would suggest replacing the drive with a new one. If you want to save the programs go to www.mfslive.org and download mfslive-1.3b.iso and follow the instructions (see ICG at there site) to try to recover the drive. If you want a quick fix order Instantcake from www.DVRupgrade.com (a sponsor of this forum) for your make and model and you will be up and running in less than 30 minutes. Good Luck whatever you choose. Remember at the current price of drives you can get 250GB for around $65.00.:)
