I'm a TVMAX digital cable customer and I am thinking about getting a TiVo HD DVR. I called TVMAX to ask about getting CableCARDs, but they said they do not provide any. I checked the TiVo website (see link below) and it says, "All major cable companies are mandated be federal law to provide CableCARDs to their digital cable subscribers." Any ideas on what I should do?

First off, you need to know the nature of the service.

First, are they really cable, in that the signal is delivered to, and/or distributed in your home as coaxial cable?
If they are an IPTV or VDSL service, or use exclusively analog cable, then Cablecards are useless. For non-coaxial digital services, a Series 3/THD is useless.

Second, what box to they use? If it is a standard Motorola (DCT series) or Scientific Atlanta coax input box, then they could issue cablecards likely.
If it is some oddball box, then chances are less likely.

Thirdly, if they are a smaller provider, they are excused from having to issue cablecards, for now, if they are a real cable provider.
