Can't seem to find an answer through search, though I know it must be a common problem. It is simply that my remote, though happily blinking red to a Tivo that happily blinks back a yellow light, has no effect on Tivo. It worked a few hours ago--nothing has changed--but it just seems to have stopped. I changed batteries, reset to 0, did a global remote reset. ALl that did was to make it stop working with the TV. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

Did you restart the Tivo by pulling the plug, waiting a few seconds and plugging it back in?

Yes, I did that twice now. Good advice, though!

It's not a common problem, actually. When you reboot, does the remote work at all and then fail, or does it not ever work?

It does nothing at all. Its light goes red, and the yellow light on the Tivo goes on. That's all. Tivo seems to working on its own--just began recording something, if the red indicator is correct. I just can't use the remote with it or get the Tivo screen to appear on the TV, even by rebooting.

Have you changed the remote code? Is the DVR switch set to 1?

I changed it to 0, I believe. It is set to 1, but does not work on 2 either.

Any other thoughts? I'd be so grateful--at the moment nothing is working and I can't see why. I guess I'll go through the wiring again, and try rebooting it all again. A new remote?

Well, my guess is that maybe you didn't reset the remote address to 0 correctly, especially since you only "believe" that you did that. Try that again?

If you happen to have a video camera with nightshot, turn it on and look at your remote end through your viewfinder or video screen while pushing buttons on your remote, if your remote is working you will see it light up in the camera even though you cant see it just looking at it, because its an infrared remote control and your nightvision camera is operating in infrared to capture its light. You did say ANY other thoughts.
Otherwise a new remote, Id suggest a harmony, lots on sale for Chrismahanukwanzakah, if that doesnt work, then theres a whole nother kettle o fish to deal with.
Good Luck
PS: man I hate answering wthout seeing the whole thread GRIN

No, it turned out to be even stupider than that--my TV was simply on the wrong channel. 4 and not 3. Someone must have bumped against it, and I never checked. Oh Lord. Thanks for putting up with me, forum!
