So I'm thinking of singing up for direct TV (for all of the HD channels) - Quick question - how does this work with MY tivo HD? I hear the DVR from Direct TV is very bad, so I want to stick with my tivo. Does it work well togather? Do you have to use the IR blaster? IF so is it VERY slow? Does it work well togther?
Can you record HD content?

Advice?

It doesn't work together - period.

The TiVo HD and S3 do not have the option to use IR blasters, because, as you point out, its a bad user experience. And satellite services do not use cablecards or output tunable analog rf signals. So, no compatibility.

Those units lack and IR blaster because they have no A/V inputs for a set top box, they have the cable and OTA tuners built in.

Right now, to record HD from DirecTV, you just have to bite the bullet and use their DVR.
