I have two Tivo's. Both are Series2. Our main Tivo (bedroom) posted a message last week reporting connection problems. To make sure it wasn't a problem related to our bedroom connection, I switched Tivos and still had issues with our main one and the secondary Tivo had no problem connecting from our bedroom line.

I've searched most of these posts including that LONG post by Dave back in Nov 2000. I think the fact that I have two Tivos and one is working fine and another is having issues leads me to think it's a problem with that particular machine / modem.

Status: On the call connecting screen, it has no problems preparing, diling, or connecting. Then while it's downloading, the call gets "interupted" every time. I've picked up the phone and listened in and it sounds like a fax machine and then the line goes dead and then the annoying loud "beep beep beep" starts. As if the other line is hanging up on my Tivo (how dare it!).

Any suggestions anyone?

As I said, I've tried the basics and the problem seems to be with the machine and not my phone line because my secondary Tivo works just fine.

Any help is much appreciated.

Does that machine have an active subscription (as far as it is concerned)?

The "account status" is "in good standing"

Check which number each unit dials. If not the same, change the number on the bad unit to the number on the good unit.

As GBL says verify the phone number and prefix.

If you have a full time internet connection like DSL or Cable there are a lot of nice features available (Watch or finish a program recorded on the other TiVo, TiVo DeskTop. Remote scheduling, TiVo Casts ...) plus connecting without tyeing up the phone line.
