I checked the forums, but only found posts related to HD units.
I have 4 Directivos. 1 series 1 DSR6000, the hughes equivalent in a Series 2, and 2 R10's.
I'm working on switching out the older units with the R10's but ran into a snag which puts my life in peril. My wife is unhappy with the fastforward resume! The older Tivo's haven't been connected to a phone in some time, so they haven't recieved software updates in over a year. They don't even have folders.
The new units are presumably the latest software from Directv. My question is this. Did Directv fundamentally change the way that fastforward resume works? Do these no longer jump back however many seconds once you hit play? Is there some sort of intelligence that tries to predict where the program starts again?
I'm trying to find out if it's a bug or if it's something that we should just be adapting to in migrating to the new software/tivo's.
My plans are to start upgrading hard drives, putting them on the network, etc, but can't do that if the wife is so displeased with the FF-Resume.
Thanks!

Go to MFSlive.org download mfslive-1.3b.iso burn it to a CD. Boot the CD and make a backup drive at least 40 GB. load that drive into one of the TiVo's and let it upgrade. It may take up to one week before you get 6.3e. Run with it for a couple of weeks to see if your wife likes it. If she does get a new drive and upgrade the other unit. If she dosn't replace the original drive. At the current pricing you can buy a 250GB drive for less than the cost of the original 40GB drive.:)

To answer the question...
There have been no updates to the jumpback feature. In fact, AFAIK, it's a patented TiVo feature, so it's not likely to be removed.

I don't have the unit connected to the phone at this time. I'm on Vonage and couldn't get the older units to ever make a call over VOIP, but the R10's can.
Are you suggesting that i upgrade the older units to the newer software w/larger drive instead of resolving the FF-Resume issue with the R10? I have instacake PTVnet from DVRUpgrade as well, i was going to upgrade all of the Tivo's disks and whatnot...the series 1 would ultimately be the only one remaining off the network.
The R10's are 80GB and the Hughes and Phillips are 40GB. I have sitting on my desk (2) 120GB drives and a 300GB drive waiting to go into something.

Has this feature changed between Series 1 software circa 2 years ago and current software 6.3e?

Is it that the FF doesn't jump back that the wife doesn't like? You do remember that the jump back feature for fast forward only works with FF2 and FF3?

on FF2 or 3 it jumps back too far.
Or if she hits RW x2 then play, it ends up right back where she started the RW from...
It's really annoying.

You mention using RWx2, use the 8s replay instead. Or try pressing pause instead of play, it won't do any jump back. Then maybe a replay will get it back where you she wants.

This is the aforementioned wife.
Here is what is making me nigh on homicidal:
Problem 1
When fast forwarding through commercials I am a skilled TiVo user. I hit play pretty close to the resuming play of the show most of the time.
With this new TiVo thing, I hit play and it just keeps fast forwarding.
What I've done to troubleshoot:
Made sure the batteries are fresh and new in the remote.
Made sure that there is absolutely nothing between the remote and the TiVo to ensure direct communication between the devices.
Problem 2
When using the rewind function after the fast forward has taken me 70% through the next segment before the next commercial to get back to the beginning of that section of the program, I hit the rewind button the customary three times until I see the end of the last commercial then I hit play. Hitting play resumes the entire show from exactly the same point at which I initially hit the rewind button!
The only solution to this seems to be using the rewind on one click versus two or three and watching my program in reverse which is kind of defeating the point of watching it!
Until next time
I will attempt this pause suggestion to which you have referred instead of using the play button.
I'm ready to pull my hair out and lodge the remote firmly inside the t.v. every time this happens and it just keeps getting more and more frustrating every time it happens.
I'm a woman on the edge!
Any solution you offer that works will save the life of an innocent television!
Thank you.

This same problem started happening to my Philips DSR 7000 early last week. When Fast Forwarding in FF 2 or 3 it jumps ahead 5 – 10 seconds when hitting play.
Has anyone found a correction to this?

You mention using rewind to go back. Are you really using rewind? Try using the 8s replay button instead.
I can't relate to this problem because I don't have a s2 DirecTV TiVo with the 6.3e software. My T60 is a series 1 with 3.5 software.

No I’m not using RR.
When Fast forwarding through commercials (lets say) When I got to where I wanted to stop and continue in normal play mode, when pressing the PLAY button on the remote the Tivo would jump back 5 seconds. Now (for some reason) when doing that it jumps ahead 5 – 10 seconds. I’ve tried the pause and all the other suggestions. I haven’t updated to 6.3 yet. Maybe I’ll plug the tivo in to the phone line and wait for the update. May that will fix it. Who knows?

When my series 2 units upgraded (automatically and never again will that happen) from 6.2 to 6.3e I started having all kinds of strange problems with FFwd and FRev. Most commonly I would end up at the beginning or end of the 30 minute live buffer when I hit play at the end of a commercial. It seemed to coincide with commercials that ended exactly on 5 or 10 minute inervals. If I hit Pause or Play in the middle of a commercial and then "crept" up on the end of the commercial I never had a problem.
Never had a problem before 6.3e. Never had a problem since using WeaKnees to return to 6.2.
