Using IP with version 3

I may be showing my ignorance, but I have searched in vain and found nothing but frustration. What I am looking to do is connect a network adapter to a standalone Philips HDR212 with ver.3 software. Can this be done? Can I upgrade the ver.3 software. I have usb ports on the back, which I thought signifies that it's a version 2 TIVO, but other links say it's a version 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that you have a Philips DirecTV Tivo

A Philips S1 DirecTV Tivo doesn't have USB ports either. It would have to be an S2.

Philips never made a series 2 Standalone, only DirecTV TiVos and Series 1 Standalones. Seek advice in the underground section for networking those.
