It's bad enough that I have to put up with the 6.3 software fiasco, now D** Won't let me transfer an active card. I spent over an hour on the phone tonight with 4, different persons at DirecTV, including retention. They won't budge in letting me transfer my card from one receiver to another. They claim they never do that. I know that's not true because I have done it several times in the past. It's not the $20 for a new card that is so irritating. It's the week I have to go without our Tivo waiting for another card. To say that I am furious with DirecTV is the understatement of the year.

Why a week? When I got a new card from them it was in overnight UPS. I had it the next day.
To my understanding, that is what the $20 is for.

I transfered a card last week. The first level CSR told me the card was married to the reciever. When I was transfered to the department which handles the cards I told them I wanted to transfer a card and they did it with no issue.

They all stuck to the party line. They will not transfer a card to a used receiver. Period.

DirecTV really does not like transferring cards anymore, they pretty much are stuck on making you buy a new one. I think the only DirecTivo that transferring is not technically possible is the R10 because it is what is called a RID receiver and the card does get married to the receiver.
I think they do this because they have designed the newer (RID) receivers to make this impossible so they train the CSR's that this is the rule for all receivers. I guess they want to make things simple and not have the CSR's try and guess.

]Maybe you hit on the problem. I was trying to transfer the card from an R10 to a DSR-708.
