Right now I have two single-tuner S2's, one lifetime and one MSD @$6.95/mo. I just recently added an HD TV and digital/HD cable. I want to replace the MSD S2 with either an S3 or an HD. On Amazon after rebates, it's $397 vs $262. For approximately $140 more I get a larger hard drive, a lit remote and what I consider better aesthetics. Do you get anything else?
Which one would you choose, HD or S3 and why?
Also, will MSD for the new TiVo still be at $6.95? In other words, can I tranfer my $6.95 MSD to a new S3 or HD?
Ultimately, I'd like to replace both S2's with two HD-capable TiVos. But, I don't know how to do this and still take advantage of the existing lifetime on one of my S2's.
I'm leery about purchasing another lifetime. I've had my current lifetime for 3 yrs in January. So, another lifetime seems cost-effective only if I anticipate using any new tivo boxe(s) for more than 3 years or so. This does not seem probable given my past experience.
TIA,
Terry

You can transfer the MSD from one of your old S2 TiVos to the new box, however doing so will not qualify you for the rebate on the S3. You have to activate new service on the S3 to fulfill all the requirements. Adding a third MSD for the current $10/mo would count, but transferring service would not. The TiVo HD would not have these limitations.

This thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=373748) looks at the same question.

I bought the HD and am getting rid of an old 80 hour series two single tuner. Then afterwards I saw the Series 3 after rebates was a 100 bucks more and I needed my HDMI cable now so I paid 50 bucks for it when I know it's online cheaper. But I swapped out my 6.95 I was paying on the box I am no longer using to the new HD. So that means I wouldn't of qualified for the discount on the series 3 anyway right? So I can stop wondering if maybe I should of paid the extra 100 bucks cause I couldn't of done it anyway. I have a DT that I just prepaid for 3 years so it came to like 8 bucks a month so I don't mind paying 6.95. But the glo remote looks kind of cool.

I own two Tivos and use the Tivo Wireless Adapters. I have an 80 hour series 2 in the LR and a DT 80 hour in the BR. Tivo is the best thing ever.
TiVo is great, but not usually considered the best thing ever when it comes to the bedroom.:)
